what is the obsession with crafters items being the best.

Post » Thu Mar 27, 2014 4:57 am

If crafting item is the best then what would be the point of end game PvP and PvE if you can just craft and get the best gear in the game.
Armor and weapon crafters will be for starting gear and leveling up items.

Enchant, food and alchemy will be crafters for end game players.

This system works so why change it? If it is because you want to wear your racial armor them just all for the option to create disguises

Nobody said that yet.

Some "set drops" are way better than any items you can craft. Stop being paranoic.

I know, I know, why can't this be another stock generic MMO? Requiring some sort of interaction and commerce, it's madness!

Also, the point of pvp is killing people. That's why people pvp, it's a diff fight every time.

Crafting and looting.

One of the systems is based on time, patience and skill points.

The other is based on luck.

The part of the post that bugs me is: 'this system works so why change it'
The system doesn't work in ESO because ESO has never had that system. Why try to force a system that works in another game (wow from your description) in to ESO?
I don't want ESO to be wow with a tes skin.

Crafters will trade with players, food Enchants and alchemy crafters will trade while armor and weapon crafters will also trade but their trade will be less great since the same player is probably a one time customer

Also doing end game content is harder then crafting which is why that gear is better period.

You can't Just craft the best gear, someone has to level up in a crafting skill and gather materials (which might be hard to find).
Some people may save up and buy it straight, but that also requires to invest time in farming.

This.

I keep hearing people complain about this, but most end-game dropped gears craft-able as well? Like you get the sweet drop, but you need the crafting skills to make it Legendary, etc?

And I dont want to be forced to interact with others for my commerce needs or gear.

It goes both ways.

Any game that props crafting to top extremes pisses off the raiders that need crafters and those that dont piss off crafters.

Then theres bind on pick up rare raid drop craft materials that some game does that makes one go hey were tossing crafters a bone!

Imo if you want to craft as a playstyle do it irl.

I get more personal accomplishment out of my bookbinding thsn the means to an end crafting in games.

someone else can do it for you. You'll want enough reagents to make 100% sure they succeed though, which you get using... crafting. So they'll probably charge a nice chunk of change. I would. Seems like a good way to make money.

I think if you invest enough time and skill points in crafting, and gather the required mats, you should be able to craft top end gear. It's another sense of accomplishment.

I'm fine with this method but making crafting gear just better then adventure zones/trials/Cyrodill gear seems like a really bad idea.

I mean crafters will always make gold

Wow, *eye roll*.

They set up crafting so that it takes resources away from other focuses like healing, tanking, dps, etc and that needs to be rewarded.

You have to choose what you what your toon to do. If you want to face roll the game without planning your build this may not be the game for you.

When I invest time and effort to level a skill to it's max, I want the product to be viable. Not just sentimentally viable, but actually...worthwhile. The gear that you will value and use the most is at end game, I'd like a taste of crafting satisfaction at that level.

I think it would be ideal for crafters to provide the best gear for levels 1-49. At least they should be able to create armour equivalent to what you could get in the dungeons and thus a good crafter that keeps busy with his profession should be able to provide the best armour for his level.

However, at level 50 I believe the best way to go is allow the crafters to 'upgrade' high tier items like you could upgrade weapons and armour in Skyrim past 100% efficiency. This way they'd always remain relevant. It could work similarly how you enchanted the gear of other players in WoW. Simply pop open the trade window, apply your trade buff to the item and voila.

Maxing my profession is so much harder then downing heroic Garrosh.

I think crafters should be rewarded for getting maxed crafting, but the gear should be equal not better then end game content gear.

People complaining that crafting can make the best gear in the game have done zero homework on the amount of research time and skill points it takes to be able to do that. Period.

Crafting may not be "harder" but it is time consuming, sometimes very and requires someone to invest skill points into the areas they want to specialize in. I tend to play crafters and I'd be quite happy if neither "loot" nor "crafted" items were better than the other, if they could just be equal that would be awesome. One player who preferred to raid etc. could do so until they got the drop they wanted, someone who wanted to craft could invest their time into that.

As soon as you make one better than the other someone complains. Just make crafted and dropped equal in value and equal in time to get them.

Well, there are some enchantments that are exclusive to dropped gear, so you have that.

The fact that you think this "works" tells me you have never played UO or SWG. This system has never worked for gamers that want to be dedicated crafters. It marginalizes their efforts. Additionally, crafting is the most time consuming activity in this game to truly "master," so it would be nice if those players' efforts were rewarded.

Also, the point of "end-game" activities in those other games were to collect money to buy the items you need (and remember, these games had item destruction as a core mechanic) or mats to sell to the crafters. In these games money was actually something of value.
