Ok.

Played:
Daggerfall
Morrowind
Oblivion
Skyrim

Like: Very hard. However, if you took each title and layed them in a row in front of me, and said I could play any one of them right now....
Daggerfall- NOTE: I have not played this on a DOS emulator yet. From what I see the sound quality goes south. My Core I7 PC would run it without lag i think though, but if I had to run it on a laggy PC with eh sound I would swap Spot 1 to:
Skyrim - despite it's shortcomings in some areas, it tells a fantastic story with an immersive setting and there seems to always be that next thing to go do.
Morrowind/Oblivion - to close to call. Morrowind had a lot going for it, but I really enjoyed Oblivion too. I am remiss to place one above the other.

havent tried Arena, probably wont just for a reason of comparison. It's tech is just a weeeee bit to old for me i think, to the point I might have an issue overlooking it. Still, I am sure at some point in the near future the game drought is going to catch up to us and I will load it up at that time to try it.

My first rpg game for the Pc was Arena so i've played every chapter as it came out and pretty much prefer that order for its sense of evolution. Before this it was Dungeon Master and Black Crypt on the Commodore Amiga 500.

Surprised Skyrim is at the bottom of so many lists.

Played:
Morrowind
Oblivion
Skyrim
(Downloaded Arena and Daggerfall from the Bethesda site but never played).

Preference:
Morrowind (nostalgia plus a more detailed world and story makes it an easy choice).
Skyrim (great dungeons and some memorable questlines, liked the bold changes to the leveling system).
Oblivion (most disappointing, though I later played through the whole thing, and enjoyed the Dark Brotherhood questline, as everyone else did).

Skyrim won't be on this list yet, because there's comparatively few mods out for it, with time it will probably take first place though.

wow, my order and preferences respectively.

Oblivion would come out as a more, overall, enjoyable experience for me than Morrowind but...the level scaling completely destroys any aspect of that game's satisfaction.

Skyrim is literally what I consider the quintessential Elder Scrolls game. It really feels like Bethesda has finally accomplished what they set out to do when they first started work on Daggerfall. Morrowind was marred by technological limitations, unimaginative level design (go to this camp and be this Nerevarine...now do the same thing with minor variation FOUR MORE TIMES), and lack of enemy diversity. there were literally times I sat there bewildered at some of the odd, almost [censored], quest branches ("Yes...I recognize you as Nerevarine but as you know I need a wife so can you go get me one? Please and thank you.").

so overall it comes down to which one I had the most fun with and the answer is obvious, imho.

Order of play:

1. Morrowind
2. Arena (for like 10min until I fell into the sewer and died unable to look up and find the stupid stairs)
3. Oblivion
4. Daggerfall
5. Skyrim

Order of preference (so far, I'm still in the middle of my first playthrough in Skyrim, so "this is subject to change" as they say):

1. Morrowind
2. Skyrim
3. Daggerfall (Probably so low only because I played it when the graphics was old enough to interfere with gamplay experience. I still think it had the best character creation system of all the TES games.)
4. Oblivion
5. Arena (Much like with Daggerfall, at the time I could finally get my hands on it, I just couldn't get past the technical stuff like archaic controls and visuals.)

I know that Skyrim is my current favourite because it's the new game and I'm still discovering new things and trying out different play-styles. It might move down a notch after a couple of years, but I'm really not sure.

Only time will tell.

Edit* I really liked Oblivion when it first came out, and I played it for years before it got old. The only reason I ranked it so low is because I've pretty much played it to death.

Also, I still play all of the Elder Scrolls games to this day, even Arena, and I have a tonne of fun with all of them.

Order played: Daggerfall, Morrowind, Arena, Oblivion, Battlespire, Redguard, Skyrim.

Order of preference (unmodded):
1. Daggerfall
2. Morrowind
3. Skyrim
4. Redguard
5. Battlespire
6. Oblivion
7. Arena

Order of preference (modded, excluding the unmoddable older titles):
1. Oblivion
2. Daggerfall
3. Morrowind
4. Skyrim (too early to judge though!)
5. Redguard
6. Battlespire
7. Arena

I like all the Elder Scrolls games, really, so the order of preference makes me look like I dislike some of the games but I love them all. Battlespire and Redguard are very underrated, but I'd still put them behind the main games despite being great. I found Arena kind of bland, it was "just okay." Same with unmodded Oblivion, but when modded I think it ties with Daggerfall and modded Morrowind.

Order of Preference: Oblivion, Redguard, Skyrim, Morrowind, Daggerfall, Arena (Yes, you read correctly. I don't think Morrowind is the best TES game. On the contrary, I believe it is HIGHLY overrated)

I would love to try out Redguard and Battlespire. I'm hoping that Bethesda releases them for free like they did Arena and Daggerfall since all the used copies I see online want way too much money.
