I would have thought that the wagon and horse would shortcut trips between cities for people overloaded with gear, unable to fast travel, and having exhausted the city's septums. (That's my character ... constantly overloaded.) Long and short of it: Nope. I can only ride a wagon if I'm not overloaded. Not sure of the point of this then, as I can also fast travel when I'm not overloaded. Am I missing something here?
So people who actually like RPG's can have a fast means of transportation and keep their 4th wall. I think the real question is why is fast travel there if there are carriages.
You can travel by carriage to cities you haven't visited before. Other than that, nope.

Can't disagree with what you're saying, OP, but I also use carriage for my new characters. A new mage, for example, hears from Farengar that he/she should go visit Winterhold to learn about magic. This perks my characters' ears up instantly ...

I cant ride to a specific spot on a carriage just towns.
Barely. It'll take a while to walk to the carriage. And then take a while to walk away from it to your destination. It makes much more sense to just drop/store something and come right back for it than to slowly make your way to your destination when you can make two trips much faster.
Using fast travel isnt casual. There are some characters where I ban myself from using it, and then my main where I use it. 1. Bc wtf is going to kill me! Nothing can kill my main. 2. I dont have a ton of time to walk about Skyrim to get to a simple vampire hideout that I already have discovered and raided 50 times before.
And why the [censored] is using fast travel so taboo. You RPGers are the most elitist bunch of [censored]ers in gaming.

You wouldn't need to be a RPer to understand how fast travel ruined part of the series appeal, you would only need to have played the games.

You dont have to use it. Now I agree that we should have to go to a horse and wagon to fast travel, thats fine I really enjoy the way Boarderlands 2 does it. But deleting every mode of fast travel is a wee bit outrageous!
I don't understand why you can't fast travel by carriage if you are over encumbered, but you can fast travel if you're on a horse while over encumbered.
I also don't understand why you can't use the carriages to go to your home(s) that were added by Hearthfire.
Boats, silt striders, carriages, spells, etc is not fast traveling.
"Just don't use it" is the stupidest non argument ever conceived and should stopped being thrown around.
"Just don't use it" is actually the best argument I can think of. Fast travel is a CHOICE. You can choose to fast travel or hoof it on your own ... it's your choice. Just because one doesn't like fast travel does not mean it should be removed from the game. Is one's gaming experience lessened because they choose not to fast travel ... even though it is possible to fast travel? No way.

That's because you don't understand how games are developed. Though this also concerns compass and map markers.
