What is the point of the V-bird minigun?

As an alternative fast travel the V-bird taxi is just great. One of the better addition to the series if you ask me.

But what is the point of the minigun? If there's an attack on the place you're going to, the V-bird lands before you can use the minigun. And more or less every time some raider or psycho or mutant shoots at you while flying, they shoot at you from the right side of the V-bird, and your gun is facing the left side..

I'm close to the end of the story by now, and all I've been using the minigun for so far, is to blow up cars on my way to next landing..

The V-bird minigun could have been such a cool ferature, but it's actually pointless as I see it. Have I missed something that would make it usefull in some way?

Its just something to do while you wait since you cant skip time while going to your destination. And even if we were able to move around the cabin it wouldnt be much more than that.

You can use it in several missions in the BoS, you use it again after siding with the BoS and betraying the Institute, so it's just a small fun mini game for you to do mostly.

Its a gimmick.

They wanted some badass shoot-from-vertibird footage in the gameplay trailers so setup ONE brotherhood mission where it has any degree of use then basically said "toss it, they can use their imagination"

I like it though, it's kinda fun to rain down bullets on people sometimes. They have a lot of potential for mods and future DLC.

I do too, when i play a brotherhood character.. But its still a gimmick.

If you set things up JUST RIGHT, like going to a location full of enemies, fast travelling away then calling a verti to tale you in you could kill a few later-game. An awful lot of trouble to go through for something that should come natural though..

Maybe DLC will produce something similar that you can control alot more ^_^
