So what's the point of the bug forum?

Post » Thu Mar 17, 2016 6:36 pm

I found the bug submission link in the bethesda site that actually sorts your bugs and submits them. So why the forum no one working on the game will ever read? Is it purely community help because if so you should put a warning so people don't waste their time.

You just figured out it's a gaming forum? Where no sane dev will ever go.

Shoot man are you trying to provoke the mods? :P

But to answer your question, many bugs have work arounds. And once mods are introduced, more issues will emerge, making that forum an ideal place to talk about creative fixes.

I just don't see why discussion of bugs gets moved to a subforum no one reads automatically. Suppressing knowledge of the bugs doesn't fix anything.

Because not all bugs are universal. The devs have a nice list of known bugs. (Just taking a gander at the pc forum gives a nice view)

Solutions certainly are not a one size fit all. From using console commands, to mods that patch bugs and allow the game to continue. Like mcready's perk destroying the game difficulty. That little gem took forever for them to fix.

To put it in another way, the main use for those forums is for players to help other players.

almost all of the console bugs are universal because they were caused by the devs putting in the wrong values and never testing it. Hence drugs, perks, weapons all having incorrect information.

This would be true, except both the PC and console versions use the exact same game data.

Oh yes, and I forgot to mention the lovely version issues (huzzah for betas!). So a bug that gets created or fixed on pc won't exist on the console version.

The devs read the forum. This bug was fixed due to the devs reading the forum. ( Being in first person while wearing power armor and quickly switching weapons will no longer cause the Pip-Boy to be stuck )

This bug was posted in the PC bug forum. Several players responded, including me. When our solutions didn't match his bug, ie weapon being invisible. A dev responded, had him send in his game and the bug was fixed in the next patch.

The devs may not respond but they do read the bug forums.

Because most bugs have work arounds that have been found by other players. For instance, on my second play through I couldn't kill the railroad as the entrance wouldn't open, however after posting, some people mentioned that you could bypass the wall using power armor and glitching through thus allowing me to progress. If I sent my bug directly to the devs either nothing would be done or it would take a long time for them to patch the fix in.

it's mostly so they can ignore you, while making you feel like they are providing you a special service. much like their support system with the same generic response to every problem.

If your lucky some forum goer will know the answer to your problem.

Specifically, Bethesda's tech guys read those Issues forums to look for useful bug reports - they may not post there much but that's where they are looking for them.

I doubt their QA spends as much time reading General Discussion as they do the bug forums. If you want someone at Bethesda to read a bug post, your chances are much higher for that if it's in the right subforum.

You know what hurts?

When you post your bug report footage link there and the number of view < the number of thread visited.
