What's the purpose of picking up dog tags?

I see that people are doing this, but what does it gain you by picking up other people's dog tags?

I thought you get kill streaks by the number of kills. So, you don't get the killstreak unless you kill the person, then pick up their tags???

So you can mail them back, smeared in blood, to the fallen soldier's mother...

If you collect enough (in one life) you can call in support bonuses (by pressing P). This varies from map to map, for instance on Skyline its:

3 = maximum radar
5 = orbital strike
7 = ceph gunship

You don't get the killstreak support bonuses unless you pick up the dogtags. There is also a power module that does this automatically, and if you level it up decreases the number of dog tags required by one.

Having to pick up the dog tags after killing someone is to try and stop people camping by making them run out of cover each time.

It's a good system. Gets people moving about and makes you think more, and means less Orbital Strikes getting spammed. 5 Killstreak is fairly easy to get. 5 Dogtags isn't.

I recomend just using the "retriever" perk/module. You dont have to run across the map to pick up a keychain- looking thing just to get some dots to appear on your radar (and other killstreaks).
Plus, the upgrades are easy to get and the upgrades are worth the time.

Dog Tags are the best system ever!

I mean, if your ally is killed, the person who kiled him will pick up the dogtag. Then you can kill him.

i also like the fact that you dont have to pick them up straight away

you can can accumulate them and that way you dont lose your kill streak but its hard to do it that way as they dont last for ever and you have to make sure you know where they are
