There isn't too much I find scary about the game, it's just this.. I sometimes tend to find it creepy when I lurk around in some dark dungeon with bandits and they notice someone is there, going "Huh, who's there?". Hope it isn't a slight compassion I feel for them. >.>

Also using a mod called "Player Say Stuff", my toon sometimes scare the heck out of me by shouting "Watch out!" when someone attacks.

Mankar Cameron's paradise was really creepy for me because it looked really calm and peaceful but you knew the whole time that it was a creepy cult.

Also, I forget what the quest is called but it's given to you by the argonian women in the Bravil Mages Guild. You have to save a guy trapped in his dream by going in and completing trials, I found that very creepy.

The first time I ever loaded up Oblivion, I was working through the Tutorial Dungeon, killing rats like no ones business, and then suddenly, from around a corner Im rushed by the most hideous disgusting thing I have ever seen. That zombie gave me nightmares for weeks, and even to this day...I cant stand fighting them in any incarnation, especially when I'm playing late at night.

Waking up in the Skingrad Mages Guild hall to find Vigge the Cautious in bed beside me! :ooo:

:hubbahubba: If that happened to me I'd probably avoid that town as much as possible for the rest of the game.

Seeing one the other day kind of jogged my memory, the first time I saw a land dreugh got my blood flowing gave me a long chase through the forest and my best spell was barely scratching it ( no way I was going to get in swinging distance of that freaky looking thing) I would of been mince meat if I didn't have decent acrobatics.

That one quest where you investigating some dude's basemant full of slaughtered animals, find some human pieces, and then read a note explaining that the guy killed his mother, chopped her up, and started worshipping her decapitated head. That was a "WTF?" moment if there ever was one.

Also, more hilarious than scary: Seeing a lone shepherd look around and perform a covert-ops beckoning gesture before walking on. A second later, the sheep that were behind him eating grass suddenly get up and follow the farmer. :D

My friend Bridget was a little startled one day, walking along a road and coming face to face with a bandit she killed earlier, still dead and stripped of everything, but now standing in the middle of the road with arms out in a crucifix pose (they were lying down when previously left behind). That was a creepy and random little encounter. My friend hit the corpse with a blade though and then it lay back down again.

what scares me most is simply wandering around the overworld ruins at nighttime. IE around forts but not inside them.

It can be very atmospheric if there is fog. Also without the sweet mellow music playing which I turn down, there is only the sound of wind.

An empty dungeon is more scarier than a populated one imo.

I hope in TESV some dungeons are left completely uninhabitied by creatures/bandits... being alone in a dungeon feels like your being watched, the atmosphere alone is enough.

There's one ayleid ruin, I don't remember which...

My Conjurer was in there recently; crept through the whole place. Nothing, nobody. Just an eerie silence. Got to the last room, still nobody. Looted the chest, and turned around...

And a dread zombie was standing in the doorway. She had to fight her way out.

There should be more of those. :)

One of the scariest moment I had in O was during character generation. I think I chose a wood elf lady as my first build. That was terrifying...

In Chapter 24 of Buffy's Journal, she battled the final Vampire in Gutted Mine for Azura. That fight ranked near the top of her scariest, for that is when she painfully learned that vampires could not be paralyzed. Here is a snip:

* * *
By the time he advanced a few more paces, I had loosed my next arrow. He again staggered briefly, then relentlessly continued his rush towards me.

He was too close for a third arrow now. The dancing cobra, that had decisively turned the tide of several fights to my favor, swirled from the fingertips of my right hand. In addition to its poison-like damage I figured it would put the orc on the ground for a few seconds - long enough for me to bring my bow to bear again and even call forth a command spell if needed.

I stood in horror as the vampire ignored the paralyze effect, his charge unabated. Pale red eyes clearly reflected torment and fury as the long sword in his right hand swept straight out to one side, preparing to swing.

My left hand came up as Daenlin had taught me. Simultaneously, Boderi Farano's training caused white magic to flash into my bow, strengthening it to meet the oncoming attack. I braced myself to block, even as I began to form a spell that could command the vampire.

The orc's horizontal slash mercifully slammed into one of the nearby wooden support beams with a thunderous explosion of splinters and dust. The mountain of green flesh and heavy armor bearing down on me however, did not stop. His body struck my reinforced bow and I was swept from my feet. The growing spell in my right hand fizzled as the vampire's momentum drove both of us into the wall behind me.

There was a flash of light, then I was swallowed by silent blackness.

I was fighting to breathe as I awoke under a crushing weight. Struggling, I managed to push and shove the dead monster that covered me until I could gratefully fill my lungs. Then I kicked and wormed my legs out from underneath the orc until I was able to sit up. I drew both knees to my chest and wrapped my arms around them. My shaking became uncontrollable, then turned to sobs.

Tears eventually yielded to the realization that I sensed no more vampires here.

This was a long time ago, so my recollection is a bit fuzzy, but...

I was in an Ayleid Ruin, in a two level room (big high ceiling room with banister-ed walkways and whatnot). Playing a stealth based Archer/Mage hybrid with FCOM, and most notably for this case, MMM Zombies for Body Meshes, Attack and Hide, and of course MMM's chance for the undead to get back up after you kill them.

I wiped out a group of zombies on the upper area, looted, and dropped down into the bottom part, right on top of a couple of Spectral Warriors from OOO, nearly died, out of magicka, out of potions, when the sneak eye lights up, battle music kicks in and I realize one or more of those zombies on the top deck have gotten up.

I play cat and mouse with it in the shadows for a bit, and the sneak eye dims and the battle music drops. I stay perfectly still a few moments to make sure I don't get seen, turn around, and the damn zombie is standing directly behind me, almost on top of me.

Buck naked, rotten green female Orc with creepy dead silvery eyes just standing there staring at me, I nearly deuced myself. Seriously, I had to get up and walk around for a few minutes, it really freaked me out, it was great.

Don't get moments like that too often, makes you appreciate them all the more when you do.

You are most scared at low levels becuase you are so easy to single hit to kill, remember I was doing Skingrad recommendation quest and run into a troll, I almost freaked out, had to run back to the city and have the guards kill it. Same in fallout 3, scariest building is the Springville elementary school. The raiders are far better shooters than you and can easy kill you.

Generally mountain lions are scary even at higher levels as they sneak up and jump you.
The lost spires mod has a maze with some skeletons who don't show up with detect life, pretty scary until I realized that. They was only in that maze, had they been mixed with other enemies it would work better :)

These are the kind of moments I like too. I do not use detect life in dungeons because I like the surprise of sneaking around a corner and finding a zombie or troll staring me right in the face.

The Forlorn Watchman quest creeped me out. It′s one of the most original quests I found yet.

I think the only thing that has ever creeped me out was my first few encounters with wraiths, I couldn't hurt them and they had that eerie screech...I stayed away from ayleid ruins filled with undead for a while after that.
