What is the Scariest Thing you have seen/ heard of in Oblivi

Post » Thu Aug 26, 2010 3:18 am

Forced NPC encounters, like with people such as Glarthir, if your not expecting it and speakers are up slightly, Massive loud voice and face on my screen.

Having grass on and hearing battle music, not seeing anything. But when you turn around a Mountain Lion/Troll in your face.
Wraiths sometimes have some spooky sounds too.

I hope Skyrim'll pull of the scary factor a bit better this time. Spiders falling from the ceiling sounds as a good start, either way! :hubbahubba:

"By Azura, by Azura, by Azura... It's the Grand Champion! I can't believe it's you standing here, next to me!"

I ran for the hills, screaming!

Spoiler
The first time I did the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Accidents_Happen mission. I killed Baenlin by dropping the mounted head onto him and snuck back into the basemant. As I approched the door out, Gromm charged out from behind a bookcase and attacked me. It scared the livin' bageshus out of me!

The thing that most consistently scares me is sneaking through a dungeon and turning to look to one side and seeing a Zombie RIGHT THERE! Makes me jump damned near every time.

The single scariest thing I've seen in the game, in a slightly different sense, was one time when one of my characters was on her way down to Ft. Caractacus to talk to Ancotar about his experiments. She was moving slowly because she had been told that there were invisible animals there. She had Fin Gleam on so that she could detect them, but it doesn't have much range. Suddenly she saw a purple blur right in front of her, with the words "Mountain Lion." That was a couple of seconds of sheer terror mixed with helplessness. Then she died. Invisible Mountain Lions aren't something to mess with.

I was in Skingrad, on one of my evil characters, Ruby my female wood elf think and I killed Glathir because he was annoying me, but he was dead and i searched him, took everything and left a naked glathir behind the chapel, I come back about an hour later in real time and he is stood there, (he had the angry face when 0 disposition) standing in a back ally staring at me with that face, he wouldn't even speak to me, It was a pretty scary and convincing glitch tbh :sadvaultboy:

I just had two dumb scares last night, and should've remembered to mention these sorts of things earlier, since they're not that uncommon.

First, I was in Skingrad - in Gunder's shop - selling stuff I'd looted from Cursed Mine while I was killing time before my next meeting with Glarthir, and when I turned around, BOO! there was Dion, right in my face, wanting to know why I was asking around about Glarthir. Surprised me and made me jump.

Later, I was in Bruma. I had already done Two Sides of the Coin and had just returned from fighting Raynil Dralas and was again in a shop - this time Fjotreid's - and again I turned around and BOO! That time it was Myvryna Arano delivering a mysterious note. Again, surprised me and made me jump.

Spoiler
That quest where you are on the island where the people pay to hunt you. It was easy enough, and at first I didn't think much of it, but later I realized how creepy that was. Who the hell would pay money for a chance to kill innocent people?

where do you start that? :o i dont think ive ever done it

The scariest thing to me, by all odds, is the incessant false dialog between any pair of NPCs. It reminds me of a film called The Stepford Wives: smiling possessed people who held conversations that meant absolutely nothing. It breaks the game reality, and nothing is scarier than that.

Scariest moment was when a male bosmer told my first character(male orc) "I'm so happy too see you I could burst"

"You sleep rather soundly for a murderer" the first time I heard that I freaked out.
And a few creatures sneaking up on me but Morrowind had much more scary moments.

Arkved's Tower, anyone? I wouldn't say it's the scariest, but it makes me wonder what's wrong with his mindset everytime I'm doing Vaermina's quest...

The oceans run black with memory tides beyond counting of the horrors i have visited in my journeys on Death's path.

I remember the first time playing OBLIVION in 2006 and being totally startled in freezing terror as a Land Dreaugh came rushing out of some bushes by the peaceful shoreline with a infernal inhuman roar. I was so paralyzed with fear i just stood there as the Land Dreaugh tore my character apart limb by limb. After reloading my save i realised the end result would not change for upon comitting to combat once more i was utterly destroyed in body and spirit by this unstoppable titan of desolation, this.. abomination unnatural.

Back when the game came out and I went into my first Oblivion gate. I remember yelling at my dad in the other room that I was trapped in hell and couldn't get out! At the time I thought I had made a horrible game mistake.

Any of the undercrofts tend to freak me out, and walking along the rivers edge after dark feels a bit edgy. Why did I sell this game?

I'm sure plenty of people will agree on this, Myvryna Arano is scary as hell. She get's me everytime, with my most recent character, went to jail for stealing, got out and hit the jewelry store in the IC. Was sneaking round the ground floor when BANG, she appears, the only warning i had was a couple of footsteps, makes me jump everytime, and if anyone knows who i mean, her face is also pretty damn frightening!

Theres a rare sound effect of flies - I think its supposed to be flies at least - buzzing that is really distrubing to me. I've only heard it three times (once in Echo Cave, Anvil Lighthouse's basemant, and another in Memorial Cave). Reminds me of some kinda sound you'd hear when you are going nuts.
Good scares come from the modded content which often strays from the expected. Mods like Gates to Aspegard (sp?) are good examples, the use of video is very startling.

Two times for me...
1) In some cave, I think the one with the dead Akaviri Messenger in it, and I turned at a T intersection, and the place I came from had the roof collapse behind me, no choice but to go on, so I turned the T intersection to the left and came to a corner when I heard heavy stomping behind me, I turned around and there is an Ogre! Too close to use my bow, I ran around the corner, hoping to get some ground between it and me, then around the corner is two more Ogres! Thankyou Goldbrand...

2) I was doing DB questline, returned to Luciens new farmhouse, when I found him hanging naked, mutilated, upside down from the roof! And he was surrounded by creepy people in Black Robes! Yeah, i kinda attacked them.... Then went back to a save :P

How about when your minding your own business out in the wild and suddenly...(DA DA DA) battle music ensues...you draw your sword eager to massacre whatever puny creature dares challenge your might...you look to your left (nothing)...you look to your right (nothing)...you look to yo...MUDCRAB! Run! :shakehead:

This might be a bit of a spoiler but it's my scariest moment that I just remembered recently..

After picking up the quest for Namira's shrine I went to the ruins not expecting much other than to sneak around and help her followers, but once I was inside it was almost pitch black accept for the fire of torches from the paroling npc's. Sitting back in the shadows I moved as slowly as possible, not sure what I would find inside this place. I was disturbed to find creepy figures barely visible in the vast stretches of darkness, slowly and quietly creeping around each other like something out of the movie The Cave, it gave me goose bumps and I thought they mights start swarming and leaping on me to tear me apart if they saw me. All I wanted to do was turn around and run for my life without being seen.

Now I know many have probably already made this thread, and I dont care so dont troll and post links to other forums. Anyways, I have traveled many paths in Oblivion and encountered some strange things and scary things. This is a thread for you to post the scariest place, people, thing you have ever encountered in Oblivion. I will start... Very Honestly when i was new to the game, the beggining Sewers was the scariest part I could never find my way around, even though the obvious route. Ok now it is your turn...

Ok so far through your awesome posts I have. Pale Pass, I totally agree with you. I had the Cowl of Nocturnal the second go through so i could see everything. But my first runthru, I didnt know what I could possibly see, it was a whole new world. In general all over Oblivion there are always those random critters triggering battle music when they come out of no where. Also in general are most all of the Dungeons and Ruins they always contain random leveled items and monsters there to scare the crap out of you. Most all of The Undead are scary expecially when creeping around a cave and spotting one headed right for you. Also Breaking and Entering can be quite scary expecially if the owners are skilled warriors or mages.

If you have anymore please dont be afraid to post, I love hearing these stories!

when i came up to a cave as an elf and it had 3 will o wisps..and i shot at them...they just got mad and chased me...so i ran...somehow i picked up a minotaur and some ogres...and i kept running toward town...i wasn't so much scared as i knew i was doomed...and those guys on their way to pilgrims pass and a guard intervened and saved my butt...it was awesome
