What's the theory on armor slots as of late?

Post » Sun Sep 05, 2010 8:41 am

So guys, what can we assume on the topic of armor slots right now?

There are a few pics that I seen that can show clothes under armor.

There is one pic of an archer sneaking up on an Elk or something. He is wearing a yellow sleeveless hoodie (Maybe it was hair, but it didn't look like it), and some baggie greenish pants.

On another picture we see a man in a horned helmet. Well, we see his back. Under his helmet we can see said yellow hoodie (once again assuming it's not hair) and under his thigh armor is greenish baggy pants.

I just think this would seem like an odd coincidence to have very similar clothing in a set of armor.

Post any evidence you have here. Maybe we can get a solid idea.

I'd expect it at around Oblivions level.

This. So far its oblivions level but it would be nice to have it on Morrowinds level or higher.

I actually think I saw someone wearing only one pauldron in a screenshot, and then in another it seemed like the same armor, but without any pauldrons at all.

This. If you look at the screens, you can see some people are only wearing one pauldron, while others are wearing two. Also, as discussed in another thread, those criss-crossing straps the burly warrior guy is wearing can be seen when he has no shirt and when he is wearing that metal cuirass while fighting the spider. I'm expecting Morrowind style armor and apparel slots. Maybe even Daggerfall.

Based off of the screens and one of Pete Hines' tweets, I think we can expect Morrowing levels of armour customization.

Pete's tweet didn't necessarily say that was the case though. Silvade asked http://twitter.com/Silvade14/status/24119353905516545, to which Pete answered http://twitter.com/DCDeacon/status/24126749738532864

Take from that what you will. If you take it literally, it just means that there will be 2 or more armour slots.

I can take it literally, but I can also take it as there will be multiple glove and pauldren slots (left and right)

I think it will be more complicated than Oblivion. But I wonder how enchanting armour will work if you can wear more pieces of armour balance wise.

It kinda looks as if we might have a separate clothing spots again from some of the screenshots, not sure about anything else though.

This is by far my favorite news about Skyrim so far. Thanks Bethesda for stepping this one up to your old fans :)

Im hoping for more then less. I would be ok with the amount Oblivion had but anything less and I would be ticked.

I'd normally say Daggerfall it up, but there were way too many slots for enchanting in that game. It doesn't make sense to me to wear regular clothes under your armor if clothing doesn't deteriorate or get battle wear, like it would in Fallout.

We don't know yet, mate. We can only theorize.

Speaking of theorizing this stuff, please place evidence of where you can get info or your reasoning for what you say. I want to see what we can come to.

I wouldn't vote the poll, but I wish we can have FO3 level accessary slots as well: Hat, bandana, earring, glasses, nosering( :hubbahubba: ), mask, backpack.

Not sure what the other armour modders on here may think but, from the screenshots, the rigging looks extremely tight to me and that implies single suit like in FO3. Also looks like hair may be rigged as well from one of the shots. I don't think clothing is physic'ed though. Skirt looks rigged to the pelvis/thigh bones. Its possible there are multiple armor slots. May be split upper/lower body and maybe gauntlets, boots, (and obviously helm) but I do not think you have separate pauldrons or clothing under armor. Could be wrong. Just my opinion having done a little modelling but I'm actually fine with single suits if thats the case. I think they look better.

They don't have thumbs?!

:o

If you wear alot of rings on your hand you should be prone to having a thief or bandit attack you in a dark alley way.

And certain people will think your too snooty and richtsy for their company.

Heh, that's pretty much like answering "Yes" to "Is it red, green or blue?". If you pay attention you can learn a lot from what people don't say. In this instance it sounds like the armor system will be quite different from what we've seen in the past. Any hint as to what that might be could unravel all sorts of other secrets BGS has hidden away.

Ive always considered the "2 rings" rule to be because if you wore more, the magic effects would overlap and make it into a sort of worthless "magic soup" that doesn't do anything.
