what the wispmothers really are?

Post » Thu Oct 10, 2013 7:15 pm

Now remember that I understand that my theory is pretty crazy but just hear me out. I believe the Wispmothers are the ancient Akaviri from a previous invasion, specifically the Kamal race.

Now the reason I believe this to be so is because of the obvious Asian (so far mainly Japanese) influences. According to the in-game book, "On Akavir" the Kamal are snow demons that thaw out and attack the KA Po Tun. The have at one point invaded Northern Tamriel and even destroyed Windhelm before being defeated by the Underking and Almalexia. Now according to Japanese yokai legends, a popular snow demon is known as Yukki-Onna. The Yuki-Onna is a pale female ghost who wander the snows, luring people to their deaths, kidnapping children, and many more. The Yuki-Onna description is almost identical to the description in the in-game book "The Wispmothers". Seeing how that the Wispmothers are at least based on the Yuki-onna and the prior invasion of Northern Tamriel by the Kamal Snow Demons from Akavir, Its hard not to see the correlation.

Tell me what you guys think?

I like the relation to real life, and it's hard to look at those two comparisons and think differently. However based on their in-game appearance, I'm going to side with the theory that they are ghosts (?) of the Falmer, or something along that line. Although I would love to see what the Snow Demons look like.

Karstaag being a Kamal was a popular theory (at least at one time).

As for the Wispmothers, I doubt this idea. One more thing to hold againts it is that Lost legends connect the Pale Lady with "'Aumriel', a mysterious figure Ysgramor's heirs battled for decades, and finally sealed away.". Since the other two stories look to be true, we could assume this one is as well. Which would rule out the kamalness, as they came to Tamriel a long time after Ysgramor's line was considered to have ended.

The theory was made shortly after Bloodmoon's release. Though it is not like there is much in the way of solid evidence for (or againts) it...

That would explain it, I wasn't yet lurking the forums around Morrowind's time.

Wish Skyrim would have went into the origin stories of some creatures, namely Giants and Wispmothers. Both have a lot of questions surrounding them.

More as to what happened to the Giants to turn them into dumbed down creatures unable to speak a language. All we know is that they disappeared into the mountains around Skyrim and when they came back, they had lost/forgotten nearly all of their previous culture.

They're actually remnants of innocent http://i.imgur.com/Vocg7.jpg, victims of Nordic "sixual harassment" during their genocides.

They seem to be connected to Falmer in some way.

Since they do not respawn I have been thinking that the places they appear at are important to the Snow Elves/ Falmer in some way. Perhaps the sites of ancient cities, burial grounds and battles.

I was thinking along similar lines, though I can't say that I know of any place that stands out as particularly note worthy. There is one that spawns near a derelict Dwemer ruin, and there's nothing of any particular interest there aside from the Wisp itself. Its pretty out of the way, and unmarked at that, so I found it a bit strange that there was one there, or all places.

They still have a language and culture. Giants are woefully under-represented in Skyrim, but it's still there if you care to look.

It would be positively disappointing to learn that wispmothers were not connected to the Falmer in some capacity.

There's one in Blackreach. There's also a good chance of having the entire Falmer "settlement" (the Dwemer Globe city) come rushing down to her defense depending on how "loud" you are.

Yes, defense. The Wisp faction is allied with the Falmer faction. Which further supports the notion that they are vengeful spirits of Falmer. Seeing as how they are friendly to Falmer, and vice-versa.
