What do we think of this idea?

Um, it would be simple.

Simple as that.

Well, Bethesda have left it out for a reason, and when it comes to coding something it's not "simple as that". The console is only in the game as a debugging tool for developers. It's meant for testing and fixing things (oh the irony).

They haven't wasted any time or resources making it user friendly for consumers, but have left it in for those on the PC (the format the game was made on) that want to use it, at their own risk.

To do what you said, Bethesda would have to take time and resources away from other parts of the development to specificly code something usable for console gamers. Something they never intended to be used as part of the game in the first place.

So, there's some interesting stuff in this thread...

First, I added an option for the PC players that requested a specific YES.

Second, it seems like there's a lot of concern about typing commands. I'm not sure why this is the case. Consider that:

- Debug console use doesn't require much typing, to my knowledge, only one-line commands.
- We already use the default keyboard interface and controller to rename items at enchanting tables. (On 360, and I assume PS3 has something similar.)
- Hardware for messaging/typing exists. (Google: 360 messenger kit. Again, I can only speak for 360.)
- USB Keyboard is possible.

Third, just want to throw this out here--I haven't voted yet, despite creating the poll, though I'm leaning toward a yes.

It makes sense that console ports won't get mods.
It makes sense that console ports didn't get debug console access, by default.
But as DLC? This should be both possible and sensible.

I'm not for it or against it but it could be done. Does No one remember that the 360 has a keyboard that plugs into the gamepad; I'm sure the PS3 has the same type of device, no? So, typing on a console can be done fairly easily.

I'd just like to point out that the command console already does work on the Xbox 360 version of Skyrim. I saw a YouTube video on it. The guy who uploaded the video showed us how simple it is. Basically, you just save your game to a USB stick, plug it into the computer and get your Xbox 360 save, ans change the file extension from ".dat" to ".ess" and then load up the game on the PC. After you're done with the commands you just change the file back to a ".dat", rehash and resign it, pop it back onto the USB and load it up on the Xbox.

Oh, what happens? Nothing happens. All the commands you put into the save on the PC still work on the 360.

Don't you realize that the debug console is already there? There's just no "~" key to access it.

Haha the OP actually believed a PC player would ever vote yes!!!

Just kidding i will vote as promised for the reason which is that i already pity console gamers for not being able to have mods and i believe from the bottom of my rotten heart that they deserve this kind of convenience at least.

I assumed this is true, yes, but without concrete knowledge I opted to leave it out of my post.

I'll have a look around for that video you mentioned.
