What is this item for?

Post » Sun Aug 05, 2012 4:14 pm

I found an item in the game called '"Strun" Rune' and can't figure out what it does or is used for. It's listed as a miscellaneous item and looks like the dragon stone from Bleak Falls Barrow. I am able to remove it from my inventory, so I'm pretty sure it's not a quest item. My wife and I have been playing since launch and neither of us has ever seen this item before.

More Info:
Running the current version via Steam
Don't have Dawnguard (yet)
Current Mods:
A Quality World Map - With Roasds
Alternate Start - Live Another Life
Crafting 300 - Armoury of Tamriel
Glowing Ore Veins 300
Script Extender
High Res Texture Pack
Spend Dragon Souls for Perks

Does anyone know?

could you show us pics?

strun means storm, so maybe has to do with dragon shouts or something.

The forum system says I don't have permission to post links, but if you go to my DeviantArt page (uesrname: AnsgarDrachelanze), there are front and back pictures posted on my gallery.

it looks exactly like the dragonstone you get at Bleak Falls barrow. That is one of the first main quests though, so I'm sure you stumbled upon it at some point. Anyway, talk to Farengar at dragonsreach, he might take it as part of that quest

I completed that quest well before getting the item, but went back to Farengar with it anyway. Went through all of the dialogue options - nothing, he won't even buy it from me (Belethor will).

you might as well sell it, or store it somewhere, just in case you end up needing it.

Where did you find it ? It does look like the Dragonstone, but a little darker in colour.

I don't know for sure, but there are odd pedastals I can interact with but do nothing around Skyrim. If anyone knows what I mean, can you think of the location fo one of the pedastals? Perhaps the OP can try using the stone with it?

(Or maybe I'm dumb and those pedastals have an obvious use)

If they are the same pedestals I think they are, they are part of getting the master lightning spell. You need a book to activate them, it's part of a side quest in the collage.

Best advice would be to not sell it, keep it in your house; if its not that heavy keep it with you - your stamina will level up and make up for the extra cumberence later on anyway.

Stamina doesn't level up by carrying things

I assume he presumes one would at some point later on allocate points to stamina.

I know, I didn't say it made sense or was a logical thing to do...

After further research and experimentation I discovered it to be a smithing item that acts similarly to an enchantment as part of the "Crafting 300 - Armoury of Tamriel" mod, so, yeah...I'm, as my wife lovingly put when she figured it out for me...a dumb***. As far as the weight of the item and stamina, it weighs 1.0 and the character that has it (Smitty Smith VIII) is a stamina war axe+shield fighter. He's only level 9, but he's seriously fun to play. Unfortunately, going melee against a dragon at level 9 does not tend to end well, for I am crunchy and taste good with ketchup...
