What is the proper protocol in this situation? do i go from door to door in the building to find out whos it is? do I just throw them into a pile in the corner?

Talk to the building manager? Or just put them aside with a note.

Eww, the same load of clothes in the washing machine? By this point, I'd make sure I was wearing gloves, they've likely started growing mold on them after being in a damp environment for several days. But yeah, if you go away, and come back an appropriate amount of time later and the person has not removed their clothes, then yes, take them out and stick them somewhere else and leave a note explaining why. Especially if they are shared washer/dryer facilities for an apartment complex.

I don't even wait an hour. I put it somewhere where it isn't dirty and leave it there near the laundry machines. People are busy, if you forget your [censored] in the laundry for hours on end and get upset that someone took it out? Well, [censored] you. It was your own fault and your negligence is incredibly rude.

Yep. This right here is what I'd do. I wouldn't leave a note though. Whoever left their [censored] in a shared laundry machine is either an ass, or they don't want the clothes.

Things can get awkward if you are a guy tossing some girl's clothes out of the machine though. Had two weird experiences with that.

One, I was waiting for like 30 minutes for this girl to come back down and switch her load over. I got fed up and was trying to chuck the undies covertly into the already growing pile of clothes on the counter when the girl walked in. She caught me with two of her thongs slowly dangling back and forth from my fingers as I stared at her with what I assume was an impressively stupid expression. She wasn't happy, it really looked bad. I still remember the pattern too. Zebra with pink lace and black and white with swirly patterns. I remember this because I flew them against the wall as soon as the situation 'clicked' in my head and they kind of stuck to it for a second. She surfed and was hot too. Totally blew any shot with that then and there.

Two, I was tossing some clothes into the corner after waiting a good while for the clothes to get switched over. I got to what I thought was a lacey shirt or maybe a shift. Turned out it was some massive panties. I looked at it with one of those holy [censored] [censored] expressions on my face. The big girl walked in right then and just stared at me for like 10 seconds, blushed, smiled and raised her eyebrows in rapid succession at me. I dropped the parachute panties and scuddled out of there.

Throw some confetti in the air and punch the nearest person, and then run away.

Works every time.

Take the clothes for yourself, wear them at every possible opportunity. Eventually someone will recognize them and either ask for them back or freak out, either way problem solved.

In the first part I would have gone, well totally dig the patterns. Still would tried after. Perhaps an apology.. Though it probably wouldn't have helped.

chuck the [censored] outta the washer and dryer, after that many days.... their stupidity is astounding and if they get angry, tell 'em to think next time they leave their clothes in the washer and dryer for days on end... Not to mention they probably won't know you're the one who did it anyway.

Its a no-brainer. Take them out, put them on the floor. They need to be rewashed after that long sitting stagnant anyway.

Nah, I had a similar thought, this was a coed dorm building afterall. Just got tongue tied. I remember desperately trying to think of a joke to diffuse the situation, but it fell totally flat. There were no crickets, but I heard crickets.

Now that's what I'd call a dicey situation.

This has happened many times. Correct protocol is that, as the washing machines have a timer and therefore the guy could have set an alarm to tell him when his clothes were ready, if it has been more than ten minutes, they go out of the machine. Usually somewhere relatively clean, but after more than a day? He'd be lucky the clothes aren't going out the window. Throw those things on the floor. Don't waste time with a note. Why would you write a note? Because he has been so thoughtful and courteous to everyone in the building that you are honour-bound to return the favour? Please. If you want to leave a note, use paint and write it directly on his clothes.

If it has been days for all you know the guy/gal could be dead or in the hospital. Hell he could be in jail. If its been minutes yeah just move them out of your way. I think defacing his/her property would be a really [censored] thing to do. A little bit of courtesy goes along way.

This. Only I wouldn't be so careful as to how clean the area is I put them.

Take the stuff out, do your own laundry/drying and then throw the stuff back in the washer/dryer. Clean clothes for you and no one is any the wiser!

Or you know, [censored] could've happened like it does in life. When I do laundry I have to multi-task other business while the clothes are drying as I don't have the time to wait an hour for the clothes to dry then handle said business after. On occasion a problem will pop up during drying that I'm forced to deal with asap, leaving my clothes unattended and I would hope that people would respect my clothes and leave them alone unless there's no other machines available in the laundromat. If there's available machines and I was just dealing with something stressful that has me heated then I will go ape on whoever has touched my clothes...if there's no other machines then I can only be mad at myself and the problem that has delayed me.

I hope people think about this and respect other peoples clothes when applicable as people have been murdered over a potato chip ha, messing with the wrong laundry on the wrong day could be the last mistake you make.

light them on fire on some random person doorsteps, thats the only way you could clean them after theyve been sitting in a washer for days on end.
