what is this Tomfoolery?

I've been trying to get used to the Skyrim engine as I got out of the Modding scene at Morrowind and I figured it's as good a time as any to play about once more.

However, I'm having trouble trying to paint textures to a landmass.

I keep getting black marks on my landscape. I once had a similar issue with Morrowind's texture clipping, but all that needed to be done was a slight mess around with the textures I'd used. Whenever I try to paint more land it will occasionally fix the broken cell but then break an adjacent cell. I can never win!

The issue happens with any land texture including the "nothing" texture.

I've tried lighting areas to no avail, the darkness is caused by textures, not lighting.

Trying to change the colours of the landscape also had no effect.

This is all with a fresh install of Skyrim and the CK.

A cell can only have so many different land textures, 6 i think. With the landscape editor open press i and a pop up showing the textures used should show. Its hard to understand what quad is what, but you'll see the textures used.
