what I thought about DLC

Post » Fri Feb 26, 2010 12:57 pm

I thought before that maybe a really great idea for DLC could be like each one is a different province. Like the first one could be Cyrodil then Morowind then the others right? That way each DLC could be huge but they'd probly cost like 4000 mS points each lol. But then it could hold over until the 720 and PS4 come out and they make a whole new game. It was just a thought I had. I have to go for a little so I can't talk but tell me what you think and I'll be back to see after my shower.

Yeah...

Each game takes place in a whole province (aside from Arena and Daggerfall). So we will never see a whole province in a DLC.

And DLC is generally a hell of a lot less content then what you could do with a full province.

Bethesda likes to keep things to one province, although it would be fun to visit the others.

^ What Thumbtack Jake said, different provinces will be further sequels (TES VI, VII etc.), not DLCs for this one.

Your not the first person to have that idea either but unfortunately Todd said that SI DLC was not profitable enough and that they hit the sweet spot with FO3's DLC. Don't expect anything much bigger than FO3's largest DLC.

Edit: I'd like them to release the height map for the entire continent to us modders though.

So basically you want the DLC for TES V to be TES VI, TES VII, and TES VIII?

Yeah, don't see it happening nor is it a good idea for numerous reasons.

You got that right! I was disappointed when some games went from having two expansions to having one. That has all been downgraded to DLC. :/

Why is that, do you honestly think that no developer says"oh damn we should of done this or that, oh wait we could make a DLC."

Now that's an economically practical suggestion. :shakehead:

If you want free DLCs, play these games on a PC and download mods.

DLC is fine as long as it's more Broken Steel and less Horse Armor. Operation Anchorage and Mothership Zeta both svcked horribly, and The Pitt was a bit weak, but Point Lookout was pretty good and Broken Steel pretty much was an expansion when you consider how much content it added to the game. I honestly don't mind the death of the separate expansion pack as long as DLC is utilized correctly, which I think gamesas actually has a pretty good handle on.

So to summarize: Horse armor no; linear path to game-breaking free power armor and mint condition energy sniper rifle no; lots of new quests, weapons, armor, consumables, and NPCs yes. Don't shortchange us, BGS. You owe us better.

You can charge me more for an expansion that's realistic, more work more gameplay ours each.
When you charge me just to see an elven horse armor this is ridiculous can't you see that? I prefer the modded ones.

The thing I dislike about DLC is that most of it is tackled with an "oh wait, we should have had this in all along, let's add it onto the game now and charge money for it" vibe. Expansions, however, generally try to set a refreshingly new change in pace and atmosphere, as well as often adding new gameplay elements.

Ok so.... Bethesda has pretty much said that nothing like horse armor will ever return and some of their member have hinted at full expansions are too time consuming.I wouldn't completely count out and expansion but I would guess that most DLC will be KOTN size.

That has nothing to do with DLCs, just the content within them. And no one is forcing you to buy something you don't really have any use for.

We need to scream at Onra for a Skyrim version of his height maps, if Skyrim is the size of Oblivion now, I choke at the size Cyrodiil would be in Skyrim

Too time consuming? Well whats the difference of doing a few DLC's, or 1 giant expansion that offers just as much content?

Maybe they don't lie the idea of working on one big thing for many months. Maybe change it up a bit and take brakes in between, I'm no Bethesda employee so don't take me too seriously.

Multiple DLCs can vary greatly in theme and aesthetic while still being internally consistent. If gamesas had tried to mash together The Pitt with Point Lookout it would have been a bizarre cluster**** of an expansion. The problem with DLC is not the principle but rather how most publishers implement it: as something that could have (should have) been included with the game but was excised and sold separately. I'm offended by any DLC that was in development before the damn game it's attached to came out *coughDragonAge2cough* and I find those little pre-order bonuses to be, at best, inoffensive. At best.

Fallout 3 laid out a pretty good track record for gamesas as far as DLC goes, especially when you consider that while Horse Armor was ridiculed when it first came out it's exactly what a lot of games have on offer as of right now. Better another Point Lookout than some [censored] hats that completely destroy the visual theme of the game.
