What threat did Umaril pose?

Didn't Gilgamesh have a happy ending?

If by happy you mean heartbreaking, then yes.

One question on my mind is how he managed to get the Aurorans inside the cities? As players, we never saw Merida-style versions of Dagon's Gates. Dagon's portals were always outside the city walls. How did Meridia pull this guerilla warfare off?

Meridia raids, but Dagon plays for keeps. At least some of the gates were strategic and invasion highways. It seems that the orb was a sort of gate.

That said, I sure would like to read the story of Alkosh whooping Pelinal's ass back to Cyrod when the Whitestrake's pogroms strayed too far into the Dragon-Cat's land.

I haven't written that one yet. Checks and balances, baby. Checks and balances.

Yep, but I'm pffft that my pipe got broken. Now I can only masquerade as knowing what I'm talkin' 'bout.

Can someone share? Food stamps don't cover my screens. (Neither do burgers.) I'm in the penny-aisle, if anyone's interested. :mohawk:

Damnit, they fed us the kiddy version. I'll never trust gradeschool Social Studies courses the same way again.

Just wikied it, and found out about a Mesoptamian settlement named Ashurbanipal. Why does that sound familiar? :P

And thousands of years of Good Coming From Bad, and/or whitewash, ignorance, shame, his Song being read by the Knights merely as fancy rather than right record, etc, might explain the Order's reluctance to villify or apologize for him. Plus, no one wants to gets smothered in their sleep by moths.

Indeed, Pelinal Whitestrake, Nibenay warlord of the Elven Pogrom, mistook the khajiit for another strain of Aldmeri and killed many of their number before realizing his error.

I'll go for white-wash, it's not quite Mohammed Saeed al-Sahaf but for getting his butt kicked it's definitly a nice spin.

So there would have been another Oblivion crisis. I guess Umaril just has an overdeveloped love of subtlety. Or maybe his warnings were meant to draw Wild Elves and more conservative Altmer to his banner?

well, he wanted to whither them from within as well. Imagine if an entire race viewed as "friendly" suddenly slaughtered your family and forced you into service? Morale hammer.

I guess we are lucky then that the saintly Pelinal Whitestrake was around to stop them. Why if Pelinal hadn't been there then who would have gone on crazy murderous rampages in which he destroyed entire towns and slaughtered his own people as much as he did the Ayleids.

What a true hero.

Just like my boy Herakles (or Hercules, for the roman-minded).

Just remember: A "hero" isn't a savior. it's a man (usually), good or evil, dosen't matter, who goes beyond the normal human experience to the point of being powerful enough to influence the world after death. In the real meaning of the word, Dagoth Ur, even Umaril himself are "heroes," depending on who you ask. Many people forget that, inventing words like 'Anti-hero."

They lost so they were the villains and but they still pretty much define a hero.

You could say that TES has its own breeds of heroes: people who take part entianomorphic dances and anonymous figures who keep the world moving, lost inside their titles. The Agents and Champions. And I suppose there is overlap.

Of course Umaril is a hero. He valiantly tried to defend his people.

He hid inside his castle until Pelinal showed up, and didn't fight himself until he had to. He didn't do a lot to defend the dozens of Ayleid cities and kings who were killed by Pelinal before he showed up at White Gold Tower.

I never said I wouldn't, but then again, I never claimed to be a hero..and I'm pretty sure Umaril didn't either. He didn't oppose Pelinal out of any noble cause, but because he hated men...and Pelinal hated Elves. It was mutual racism and frankly neither guy was very likable at all.

To point out why Umaril didn't fight is because they weren't HIS PEOPLE. They were other eyelids... other random people that where a member of his race. I don't feel like getting into more detail, so go figure. :P

Edit: I should point out he was a king over his own people, some of the Aylieds weren't his to care for.

[And then] Kyne granted Perrif another symbol, a diamond soaked red with the blood of elves, [whose] facets could [un-sector and form] into a man whose every angle could cut her jailers

Pelinal is an artificial construct?!!! Noooooooooooo!!!!!!!
What is he - A super advanced and sentient Knight of Order?
Anybody know what hard-light is?
