What traits do you usually pick?

I was wondering what traits did people pick.
And if BTD and small fram were good traits.

The best choice is probably none. But if you had to pick 2, then it would BTD ans Skilled. The later is arguably the best one of them all.

I always do Wild Wasteland, I just love easter eggs in games and why not pick that?

I also do Fast Shot or Trigger Discipline

I think all the traits are flawed, some can be offset with perks but do you REALLY want to start off in the hole? I took one (forget the name) that made me shoot 20% faster, but 20% less accurate in VATS. Am I still hitting the target at 79%, yes, but it's better to have a 95% chance. Wild Wasteland is fun and goofy, but I rather like the YCS/186 and the Alien Blaster's ammo is limited.

I heard that theres a challenge perk that negates the small frame downsides, and the funny thing is since you will be getting crippled faster you'll get the perk faster.

Melee/Unarmed: Heavy Handed, Good Natured.

Mercenary/Bounty Hunter: Fast Shot, Kamikaze

Heavy Weapons: Fast Shot, Good Natured.

Sniper/Assassin: Small Frame/Four eyes.

Thief: Small Frame, Trigger Discipline

Adamantium Skeleton will help with Small Frame. But at the same time, why take that "perk" when you can just take Intense training and add +1 to AGL.

The Challenge is called "Tough Guy" its to cripple all your limbs.

Unless your intention is to self-gimp your character, or you don't have the OWB DLC, always take the 'Skilled' trait. It's +65 skill points on character creation in exchange for a meaningless penalty.

That leaves only one trait to pick if you have OWB.

Mine are Four Eyes and Skilled. There's a glitch with the Dead Money vendors where you can get infinite Agility so Small Frame is out. I've always found Four Eyes very useful with a relatively small drawback. I rarely ever wear full head helmets, forsaking them for the First Recon Beret and then I proceed to get the Lucky Shades as soon as possible. With that trait, Dr. Mobius's Glasses give you +2 INT, +2 PER and +10 Explosives.

I like taking good natured and skilled. Starting with all those extra skill points is great. Sure you end up having to take swift learner at 2 to balance everything out. Tag your combat skill and two none combat skills. I started one game with 50 points of speech. That was crazy good. It's a shame the couldn't have reached back and brought in the Gifted trait.

I usually use Small Frame. The agility bonus is welcomed, and I think for a small price. Limbs become crippled easier makes no difference when not on hardcoe, and after being crippled so many times (it'll be easier to cripple thus making it happen faster too), the character builds somewhat of a resistance via "Tough Guy", a win win IMO. It could also save you from using a perk.

Then, I pick Good Natured. I don't need all those combat skills. On the other hand, I use most of the skills that recieve a bonus. So, in the long run, I'm recieving more points than I am losing.

I love using small frame and skilled. One traits penalty is actually something I like and the crippled limbs are easy to heal due to the large amount of doctor bags.

Skilled is overpowered, I happen to like leveling up more slowly and I get 65 additional points for doing so.

Loose Cannon + Heave Ho ! is quite nice.

Kamikaze is a must have for VATS junkies. 10 AP is a lot, for a measily 2 DT penalty. Unless your character is wearing clothing or light armor, the penalty is worth it.

Hoarder is worth it if your the type of character that's healing with only food or playing on hardcoe. All that food + weapons + weapon repair kits + armor, can easily be 160 lbs. on average at all times.

Wild Wasteland is harmless and has no trade off unless you really need that YCS-186.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Early Bird?? Why would I want to lose perception and agility while I am sniping at night? Isn't that when I need it the most?

Claustrophobia, not worth it, seems just for roleplaying purposes

Hot Blooded. Lose 2 Perception and Agility for a measily 10% additional damage at under 50% health? Totally stupid perk, if your using a gun for example, you are losing 4 points to guns due to the penalty or 4 points to energy weapons with perception....Plus with the loss of agility you will be reloading slower, less accurate in VATS, fire your weapon more slowly, all for a crappy 10% more damage.

Logan's Loophole: Goot trait, but the point of limiting yourself in a game is to not be God-Like and do more role-playing and specialization and yet they add a semi-God like trait to it.

Four Eyes: I never take this trait because sometimes down the road with a character I might decide to put some headgear on my character and this character tells me I can't.

Small Frame: Strictly for snipers, but I find the annoyance of gettting crippled way too often to not be worth the measily +1 to agility

Fast Shot/Trigger Discipline: I hate both of these traits. I like to shoot my pistols and rifles fast and I hate missing. Fast Shot essentially makes SMG useless, since they suffer from a high spread anyway and frankly I just end up missing everything. If your gonna make every single kill in VATS, then Trigger Discipline becomes worthwhile with the 20% accuracy in VATS, but if you want to fire in real time, you need speed on your side.

Good Natured: A crappier version of Skilled. For non-combat, non-confrontation players.

Heavy Handed: Strictly for melee players with a luck of 1. Very situational and useless otherwise.

Don't bother with swift learner as you'll hit the game's level cap with just DLCs and 1/2 the base game's quests. Really, it's throwing away a perk slot that better used on something else.

I don't think that the trait is designed for combat, but more for dialogue and other non-combat based skills. That 4 points can tip the scales of what you can and can't do and, if you mind only losing 2 points in the night, then you can wait or go to sleep. Well, that's my two cents, anyway.

I've developed a strong preference for automatic weapons, so I tend to take Trigger Discipline. It has a double upside for automatics: increases hit probability AND cuts down on ammo consumption. Also, it is the only way to reduce the spread of the Automatic Rifle, since it isn't affected by Commando.

Skilled is a great second trait. Not that you're hurting for skill points in this game, but it does allow you to hit the perk requirements in a timely manner.

I think with a more combat heavy character I wouldn't bother with swift learner, but I'm doing a no kill run. You need to maximize the XP you get.
