What is Umbriel/The Infernal City all about?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 9:22 am

Why is it above Leyawiin? What is it's purpose? Is it gone? Who is operating it? Could it be the Dwemer? Will this affect Skyrim?

I agree with the others, read the book, I enjoyed it. However if you really need to know all the information because you can't be bothered to read the book, pm me and I'll answer all your questions. I just don't want to spoil it for anyone else on the forums and I'm too lazy to make a spoiler tag.

How do you not have access to it, no money? Save up.
And my post was referring to the fact that it does not have anything to do with the game Skyrim, and this is the Skyrim board.
Here is a http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:The_Infernal_City/Plot_Summary that might help you understand what exactly the book is about, be warned though, there are spoilers.

I just hope they announce the publication of the second part soon. It ends on a cliffhanger. :(

This. Surely you can save up $15... It's actually a really good book. As Gloomy says, this is not for the Skyrim board. There is a official thread for discussing the Infernal City in the Elder Scrolls general discussion board http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1098819-the-infernal-city-discussion-thread/

I read city comments on projects, and I write specification manuals at work when they are required for a job, and even I think the Infernal City was insanely boring. After 100 pages of it, I realized I didn't give a crap about anything that happened so far. I finished the book because I didn't want to waste the second dollar I spent on it.

What's worse is that the coolest potential parts of the book were glazed over in favor of cooking habit information and video telephones used by the characters.

You need to either read the book yourself or settle for http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:The_Infernal_City/Plot_Summary plot summary and http://www.imperial-library.info/content/infernal-city-lore-notes lore notes.

I for one found the kitchen subplot very interesting and I was thrilled it isn't just a stereotypical fantasy adventure!

So it's finally announced! It's a pity it won't be out until nearly October though. :( :(

It's about exacting petty unintended revenge on Black Marsh.
But really read the book, found it interesting.

What's it about? It's about 200 pages too long!

Actually never read it. I've heard mixed reviews. The original explanation of the plot just turned me off.

Im reading through it currently, its a pretty good read, i love it just for it being Elder Scrolls. I find it a little difficult to follow sometimes, but its a good read and very interesting none-the-less.

I hate to say it, but the book itself is pretty bad. I would have never bothered if it weren't for the ES lore (which made me sad).

By the way, does anyone know what has happened to Morrowind since the events that took place in the Infernal City? Since that was only 4 decades after Oblivion a lot could have happened

http://uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Fourth_Era

4E 1 — End of the Oblivion Crisis
The banishing of Mehrunes Dagon from Tamriel by the Champion of Cyrodiil, Martin Septim, and the avatar of Akatosh ends the Oblivion Crisis. The Septim bloodline ends and the Amulet of Kings is destroyed. The Third Era ends, marking the beginning of the Fourth.
The Fourth Era begins with no Emperor on the throne of Tamriel. High Chancellor Ocato, the Elder Council, and the Blades try to maintain order. The provinces start to take opportunities on the state of Empire.
4E ?? — The Empire Collapses
Black Marsh secedes from the Empire; it is soon followed by Elsweyr.
4E ?? — Titus Mede is crowned the new emperor by conquest.
4E ?? — Morrowind is conquered by the Argonians.
With the absence of Vivec, the Ministry of Truth becomes unstable. Vuhon creates an Ingenium in order to keep the rock stable by using first dozens of dying souls, then a small number of living ones as fuel. Sul fights Vuhon over his wife, who was being used as a living battery causing the Ministry of Truth to crash into Vvardenfell, destroying much of the island and killing many of the people. The Argonians of Black Marsh invade and conquer the crippled Dunmer.
4E 18 — Prince Attrebus Mede is born.
4E 23 — Anna?g Ho?nart is born.
4E 40s — The Infernal City
Umbriel, a floating city, appears on the coast of Black Marsh, heading toward Morrowind. The city of Lilmoth, Black Marsh, the home of Anna?g, is destroyed in the process.
4E 200s — The king of Skyrim dies.
4E 200s — The Nords of Skyrim engage in a civil war.

Yes I am aware of all this, but thanks anyway.
I guess the point im trying to make is this:

4E 40s — The Infernal City
Umbriel, a floating city, appears on the coast of Black Marsh, heading toward Morrowind. The city of Lilmoth, Black Marsh, the home of Anna?g, is destroyed in the process.
4E 200s — The king of Skyrim dies.

-There is a 160 year gap there! So How can anyone be sure of the state of things in Morrowind since then? The Dunmer could have made a resurgence for all we know.

Oh yeah I see now, that is a pretty big gap, hopefully they fill at least a little in in Skyrim.
