What upgrades would you make to Codsworth and othe bots?

Post » Tue Dec 01, 2015 12:16 pm

How do I fix the title, this should be "What changes would you make to Codsworth and other bots?"

Why not put ducted fans or eye-bot flight tech on a Handy, great to be able to salvage such tech so maybe you could attach extra arms below where the thruster is now. Maybe elongate it so it can carry more without increasing its girth so it can still fit through doorways, maybe giving it front and back packs and/or the ability to carry cargo slung below from a pole or beam that can be steered by the Handy's gripper so it isn't banging into stuff, like doorways.

What are your opinions of modifications for a Handy you would like to be able to make through DLC or mods if you cannot make them in the coming game?

I have read that Handy's repair themselves and each other and help refuel each other. http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Mister_Handy_%28Fallout%29 They would probably upgrade each other and share info. They were designed to do an array of home repairs, be handyman, house keeper, nursemaid, and butler, tend pets when the family is away at work, school, etc., all this would probably take an Artificial Intelligence that learns.

Networking AIs could learn a lot, and not forget. They could probably hack terminals and data bases with ease, loot data and milk people for information with seasoned efficiency.

Though I would like to use them as pack bots capable of helping me loot, salvage, carry (I've read on the fallout wiki that they can carry 200 pounds), protect or hide my property while I and any other companions go ahead to clear out dangers and find stuff to salvage or loot.

I would like to loot and repair damaged or abandoned bots not yet repaired and have Codsworth lead them, but the others are not companions but the cyber equivalent of Brahmin, so I can have other companions, and maybe swap out Codsworth, so I can have Dogmeat and another companion.

Does anyone know how many companions you get to take on a mission?

Such bots would probably be much better than magic pockets in which you can carry rifles, heavy weapons, supplies, armor and power armor etc. up to your weight limit.

They would be a caravan or a mobile field base to return to for resupply, repairs, healing, to change out gear and tools.

Mr. Handy upgrades- plasma caster, ripper, rapid fire laser weapon
Protectron- upgraded motor function, plasma shotgun, long range laser
SentryBot- Fatman launcher, upgraded armor, gauss rifle, Gatling laser (modified for extra damage)
Synthetic Humanoid- vixen package, infiltrator package, long range optics

Yes I do believe these are the droids you are looking for Mr. Stormtrooper!

I'm hoping they let you put his A.I. in a different body entirely and if not then at least they should let you reinforce his body and modify his weapons.

Actually I'm looking for the equivalent of a work truck, a crew, and the ability to take my dog to work with me, while I work to help rebuild a dangerous disaster area.

A wasteland where I am going to have to live, and maybe struggle to build a family, if I find someone to share my life with.

Picture me more as a tinker, than a storm trooper ;)

Makes perfect sense to me, I would like the most highly mobile and long range body I

Right now my thinking is that is something that can fly over obstacle even at hover height and still carry a decent payload.

What would you prefer?

I never thought about flying over obstacles. That is a good idea. My priority really is it being able to keep up so it can't be a protectron and it has to be thin enough to get through a door way so it can't be a sentry. Either a Synth or a thinner Securitron would be nice.

Makes me think of that game ReCore shown at E3 where you can put those "cores" into different robots.

Obviously, it shouldn't be that convenient and fantasy like. I just want one transfer. Or maybe not a transfer. Just allow me to replace his jets with legs instead.

Mr. Handy's were designed, built to repair, maintain and serve.

I think the PC who's always known them that way, owns Codsworth, and has prewar tech skills fresh in his mind would regard them as most of us would a good computer (and maybe rc skills with items like drones), and what we could do with our computer (and maybe rc) abilities, and maybe a lot of salvageable resources that will only deteriorate beyond repair if nobody salvages and maintains them.

Imagine having similar experience with robotics in a world where there is salvageable tech for the taking that will be deteriorated beyond salvage in your life time, if you don't salvage what you can while you can. As a 'tinker', you can do a lot with what maybe only you can do for surviving humanity, if you commit to fixing stuff people need.

I would like to be able to repair other bots to be able to go into vaults and repair enough systems to make them habitable and the core of a surface settlement. A safe place to fall back to until reinforcements arrive if a large enough hostile force arrives to over run and loot the outer settlement,

A safety feature that attracts family, traders and skilled crafts people like tinkers to the settlement. People who can help build things like bunkers, brick kilns, mortar or cement works, repair and salvage technology, learn from someone with pre-war tech fresh in their mind. People who can at least fabricate ammo and restore machine tools etc, maybe with the help of handy bots modified to help with more sophisticated fabrication and repair.,

With stone workers, a mortar/cement works and stone from stream you can build bullet resistant buildings, or bunkers from which you can fire on raiders (human or other wise) attacking other buildings, without worrying about injuring your allies inside.

Id replace Codsworth's three eyes with three larger eyebot-style drones that can detach and fly around on their own power. Codsworth would kind of be a docking station, but he would still be able to operate without the eyes, sharing some sort of vision with them, and with his manipulators he should be able to do the hard parts of outfitting these drones with whatever my character needs at hand. Say a high focused camera drone flying around the walls of my town to spot any raiders coming. Or mount some assault rifles to them with some high-power motors and have them do strafing runs on enemies. Or be cargo drones for traders or my scavenging.

Seeing as how ole Cods is a Mr. Handy, it would be nice if he taught us some cleaning recipes for making our power armor and weapons shine like brand new.

Very creative thinking. I like the way you think. You sound like someone who would be great as a Tinker.

I have long wanted to play the game as a tinker I think it would be a great character or role choice to play the game, a traveling trades person who takes companions and helps them train to better craft their environment, gear and the resources they come in contact with.

Bottle opener and a can opener . What can I say I have simple needs. And can light my ciggs off his thrust jet might cost me an eyebrow or two.

Also maybe some flame stickers or custom paint job, make em move or seem to move a bit quicker.

(How about a heavy energy weapons plug in port like run a line from to your favorite big sparky and avoid having to reload for a while not forever just a while and maybe once a day since I bet he has juice to spare)

There was recharge station for one in the house in three (well not in megaton but that one handy that you could send shoping) I expect maybe your house in game has one.

My Vault Dweller will keep Codsworth as a fully functional domestic, She will be too busy rebuilding Her life to do menial things like cooking, cleaning, and clearing Mines left by K-9 in the lawn. I have used Robco Certified in Fallout 3 and New Vegas, and I hope We will not need Mods to have a similiar experience in Boston...

A cup holder. You can never have too many cup holders.

But possibly also thermal imaging and/or radar that allows him to "see" and target through walls.

How about a DLC or mod where as a Tinker you locate a graveyard of the earlier pre-FO 3 model Handy bot like the one at the far left of this graphic? http://s271.photobucket.com/user/Gizmojunk/media/Gizmojunk001/robots_zpsfkky3eki.jpg.html

A graveyard where most of these are not salvageable or repairable with out your tech knowledge and ability to repair technology to fabricate repair parts or robot operable machine tools to refurbish worn or broken parts. Again there could be industrial grade repair and fabrication bots you could arrange to have rehabbed so they can repair and restore tech and tools to make habitable long abandoned, or failed and neglected vaults and put back into production production facilities the recycle scrap resources and fabricate of remanufacture pre war tech critical to bringing more prewar tech and fabrication resource back in service.

Resources that can make a safer, healthier more prosperous life possible for your people. if they will work hard, struggle and as needed sacrifice to help create it a higher standard of living to pass on to their heirs.

To our Hovering ball of bolts aka Codswort:

junk thrower: it can use nearby items as leathal projectile while keeping main weapons preserved to other threats that are creeping in.

fine and dandy upgarde: adds paint themes (pink, desert camo, jungle camo, golden, urban camo, snow camo, strealth black, spay paint theme, leopard print)

Maybe repair a 6 arm version http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Mister_Handy_%28Fallout%29 (or several), up grade them with parts like "eyes" from other bots, and enable them to accurately fire up to four rifles at different targets while swapping and reloading empty magazine with stripper clips using the arms not firing weapons.

I'm thinking as a survivor of the old world with those memories fresh in my mind, as opposed to someone who's known nothing but post apocalypse survival, 200 years later.

I would be more motivated to restore as much of the world I'd lost, than someone who could only try to imagine, when they had free time for day dreaming, and little skills or understanding of much of the wreckage they were looking at much, less how to begin to fix, use, or mainatin it.

Many of us who lived through the cold war, and thought about the apocalypse pre-Mad Max grew up with the idea we would do as much as we could to help restore as much as we could if we survived the worst. I think a lot of us went to Fallout expecting more of that than just fighting for really small gains, and wandering off into the setting sun of the wastelands.

Tactics is my favorite Fallout game because it follows the rebuilding philosophy I grew up with, especially in the best possible ending where you choose the option to merge with the Calculator, take control of the robots and use them with the MWBoS to rebuild.

Seems like it was copied by Mass Effect 3 after their original lame tired ending so dissapointed the fans, The Mad Mad ending was fresh and new when I was in my 20s nearly 40 years ago.

Since Tactics I have been awaiting a big enough sandbox to immerse my self in, and fight the good fight to restore my country, this is the philosophy my generation grew up with since I was a child. I think there are a lot of us coming of retirement age with lowered expectations of our golden years who will find this type of gaming better than TV , reading or movies as affordable entertainment, and far more affordable than travel for adventure and exploration.

p.s.

I like the name Codswort.

I am hoping to have Codsworth as a base, (leader) of a army of robots that protect my settlement

and take care of the upkeep of the settlement while I am not there.

You will need Robot Expert (Charisma 8) in order to do this. Maybe he can repair other robots that I find.
