What use is custom destination?

Post » Sat Dec 10, 2011 4:51 pm

I know how to set, move, and remove custom destination markers, but I have discovered no reason for it to exist. As far as I can see, they're for having a way to fast travel back to a location that isn't marked on the map, but that you have already traveled to. But, I've tried everything I can think of to do that, and I've never been able to fast travel to the custom destination marker. For that matter, I can't set the custom destination marker very close to my current location marker on the map. Am I totally misunderstanding the usage of this thing?

So that you don't have to keep opening your map to see the general area you are heading to.

I discovered a dwarven ruin while on a quest, I set the custom waypoint for that ruin, I completed my quest, then I went back to it without haveing to open the map (I try not to fast travel too much)

Its basically used to point yourself to a non-quest-related place.

They're to mark out a place on a map, I guess. If you want to travel to a location you have not discovered yet, you'll place a marker and travel by horse. Custom destinations are also helpful for people who don't fast travel.

Custom destination marker can be moved/removed if you click somewhere else on the map. It is used to walk to a location that you have not yet discovered or find your way back to something you found.

Yea for me, if a location is located over some mountain range.
i'd use custom destination to help me plot a course around the mountain to reach the locations on days when i just don't feel like climbing a mountain.

For marking things you want to come back to.
For marking unexplored areas that you want to explore.
For quelling the complaints of the masses if a custom map marker wasn't included...

Ok, I guess I see now. You have to make sure you finish with whatever place you have marked with custom destination marker before you find another place you want to investigate, though. Multiple markers, perhaps up to 5, would seem to me to be more helpful, considering how many interesting places you can find just travelling to one quest location. Oh well. Thanks for the help, people.

If you become over-encumbered, it can be useful for dropping your stuff on the ground, heading to town to store stuff at your house or sell it, then figuring out where you left your other stuff to go back and collect it.

Also if you are approaching some enemies and you didn't want your horse coming cause he might get killed, you could leave it somewhere and place a marker so you can find him again once you've cleared out the enemies.

Also, if you are heading to a place and don't want to have to keep opening your map to check you are still going the right way.

Did you really bump a 2hour old thread to ask if they were serious about a question that has already been covered?

Little known fact:
You can set your custom destination on the local map too. Click L while looking at the world map, or open the map in a dungeon, and you can set a very specific point as your custom destination. Use this to mark things that you would never find on the world map otherwise.

If you find a dead body or an interesting rock or something that you want to come back to later, you can set your custom mark on the local map and walk right back to that exact spot. If your companion dies and has too much loot for you to carry, mark their spot on the local map and come back for their stuff after unloading your own.
