It would have been the third 'main' game in the Fallout series. It was being developed by Black Isle, but Interplay in it's infinite wisdom laid of the entire Dev team and scrapped the project.

It was probably only about 20% complete, but with about 80% of the games core done.

Since then, a tech demo and various design documents have made their way onto the internet allowing us to get a glimpse of what it might have been like. But neither Bethesda (Who don't want to take on someone elses work -especially as what there is is seven years old) nor Interplay (Who have neither the dev teams nor the cash to do it) have shown interest in completing it.

It's possible some of the content/locations/factions may be represented in New Vegas.

Interplay likely wouldn't be allowed to make it anymore, even if they wanted to, as Bethesda owns all single player IP (of which VB surely falls into).... That's why they are now trying to make FOOL.

It was the cancelled Xbox 1 FO game that was supposed to be the real FO3. Read about it on the Fallout Wiki. The design and story would've been cool. It was supposed to work on the Morrowind engine.

I think you're confusing Van Buren with another Game.

VB used the "Jefferson" engine, designed in house at Interplay for Baldurs Gate 3.

I tell you what though, if the people who made Morrowind had made Fallout 3 I would have been pretty bloody happy. Instead the people who made Oblivion made it....huge disappointment followed.

Interplay made Baldurs Gate?

BG III was supposed to be made by them (developed by the fallout-famous Black Isle studios no less), but was cancelled, Dark Alliance was however made by them. Interplay published the earlier titles for Bioware.
