Post » Fri May 27, 2011 5:46 am

Well while I was exploring little lamplight, i came across some tapes with the teachers talking and such.. and one of them after the bombs dropped walked outside and never came back.. what do you think happend to her? I wish they would not leave stuff untied like that, lol I hate it when things are left to my imagination!

Also I hear there are some scout party graves or somthing of that nature some where in the game.. any idea where?

Nuclear War. Fallout.

Radiation stays around for many years in extremely high levels. She died, undoubtedly.

There are certain movies/documentations that try to give a example what a world could be like in a direct nuclear war or short after it.

No, she would've gotten radiation poisoning, which you don't notice at first, but slowly kills you. Horrible way to go.

A really good example of the harsh realities of a post-nuclear apocalypse in a rural setting is an animated film titled "When The Wind Blows". I first saw it as a kid, and it blew me away. Made me cry, too. :(

Yes that was almost as good like Grave of the fireflies in my eyes. Even though when its about Japan in the second world war.

A bit off topic here but ive been trying to remember the name of this film for ages (even before i heard of fallout3) the only thing i could remember was that is was about an eldery couple and a rat running across the womans feet and she screamed.

so thanks Claidheambmor now i know what its called i can look for it (hope it still exists, even if its on VHS)

It was originally a comic, I read it when I was about 8 and it made me cry so much. I've seen the film on sale on DVD though so it should be easy enough to get.

I thought it was a clever way of showing that even if you live miles from a city without adaquate protection you'd be as dead as everyone else. There's a line in the flim that goes something like- 'I wonder if they evaquated the children to the country like in the last war?' and the other one says, 'But we live in the country.' So sad.

If you're interested in the immediacies of Nuclear holocaust survival, here are a few UK pamphlets that thankfully never needed to be distributed:

http://www.cybertrn.demon.co.uk/atomic/

Basically, you'd have to stay in doors at the very least 2 days without going outside. you wouldnt want to spend too long out there until 2 weeks had passed. After that, you can try to rebuild.

From wikipedia:

"10?50 Sv (1,000?5,000 REM)
Acute radiation poisoning, 100% fatality after 7 days (LD 100/7). An exposure this high leads to spontaneous symptoms after 5 to 30 minutes. After powerful fatigue and immediate nausea caused by direct activation of chemical receptors in the brain by the irradiation, there is a period of several days of comparative well-being, called the latent (or "walking ghost") phase.[citation needed] After that, cell death in the gastric and intestinal tissue, causing massive diarrhea, intestinal bleeding and loss of water, leads to water-electrolyte imbalance. Death sets in with delirium and coma due to breakdown of circulation. Death is currently inevitable; the only treatment that can be offered is pain therapy."

"Louis Slotin was exposed to approximately 21 Sv in a criticality accident on 21 May 1946, and died nine days later on 30 May."

Walking ghost, The whole notion gives me chills. It's not even the highest level of exposure that's been observed.

I imagine something along those lines happenned to the teacher.

sounds awfull and very painfull ... i believe there are plenty of movies and documentaires about nagasaki, hiroshima, and chernobyl, lucky on less scale than a world wide fall out but horrible enough, come to think thanks to the wind even in west europa they did notice the meltdown of chernobyl.

really say no to nuke weapons, thank god.

Haha, I was going to post that one.

Yeah, that movie is heavy.
This is, like, what Fallout would've been if you didn't have Vault-Tec(!) ;P

It's a great tv-movie which can give you one heck of a chill.

Eaten by feral human cannibal gangs or wild starving animals? Fell off a small cliff and died from lack of available medical treatment? Rounded up by a National Guard rescue team and brought to a decon area where everyone eventually died because there was too much radiation anyway ? Killed by a roving robot?

Probably just thought to herself .."Forget those brats, Im outta here" and ventured off ... I know I wouldve.

Or, if you want to know what happened in the days and weeks after the bombs fell, talk to Carol in Underworld. She is a living eyewitness and has some graphic stories to tell..
