What was your first defend Settlement battle like?

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 11:25 am

I just had my first battle to defend Country Crossing settlement. I got the message that it was under attack and fast traveled there thinking it was gonna be a simple kill a few mobs and that is the end. Oh no. It turned into a very intense firefight between me and Curie and I counted no less than 14 Super Mutants and 7 Feral Ghouls.

I showed up and saw that the settlers were under attack. So I grabbed my Sniper Rifle thinking it was gonna be just shoot them and that was the end. Well the first set went down and I heard a *beep beep beep beep* sound and I shot and missed the first shot as the Suicider was coming from the direction of the National Guard Training Yard. I managed to bring him down and the other friend he had with him. So that wave was over and I got hit by another group consisting of about 4 Super Mutants.

I took down this group. I was now 6 Super Mutants down. So I crouched thinking I was safe and to see if anything was around and noticed it said [Danger]. I looked around and used VATS and saw 7 Feral Ghouls rushing towards me from the direction of the National Guard Training Yard.

So I finish this group off and got ready to leave when I got hit by a round. Looking around I see now more Super Mutants coming at me from the direction of Revere Satellite Array.

At this point I was going WTF is there anything NOT trying to kill me and my settlement?

So I attacked this group and at the end of it, counted the bodies and counted 14 Super Mutants and 7 Feral Ghouls dead. Not sure if this was a glitch but I am fairly certain I didnt shoot at the Array, so couldnt understand where that last group of Mutties came from.

I wasn't there for it, because there was all of one person in Hangman's Alley at the time.

If there were others, I keep missing the prompts, and no one talks about it.

Why is this not in the SPOILERS section?

The waves just spawn at random points around the settlement, they aren't actually coming from anywhere. So it has nothing to do with where you shoot or anything like that, it's just where they happened to come from. Be glad they didn't just spawn right in the middle of the settlement; that's what happened for my first defense of Sanctuary.

Because how is it a spoiler? It's merely asking a question and discussing an aspect of Fallout 4, which has been out for now 7 days or a week nearly. Is that not the point of this particular forum? Is Fallout 4 General Discussion just for "technical support," they have a page for that but always find it here. Please explain how this is a Spoiler

My first one was pretty small like only 3 mutants attacking Red Rocket garage. However a few attacks latter I had a huge wave come at me that I was not ready for and my whole camp was pretty much ruined. Building walls has helped a bunch with the large attacks.

My sanctuary settlement got attacked by 2 gunner guys. My turrets took them down before I got to the bridge. I got all my settlements surrounded by walls and I don't seem to get attacked much anymore. Supermutents with suiciders keemp attacking one of my settlements but they run up to the walls and explode killing them and all there friends. I don't even need to fight those groups.

Moderators on this forum are downright ridiculous. Maybe I should go to all the General Discussion topics that speaking about ANYTHING in game and start whining about it having spoilers in it. Oh wait, that's half of the General Discussion.

My first one was in Sanctuary and it was a pack of Rad Scorpions. The settlement was 15 strong and we quickly killed all but the legendary RS. I decided to lob a frag nade to finish him off and the splash damage injured several of my settlers. The whole settlement turned red and they killed me in about 2 seconds.

Get alert after playing a whole day and a half none stop.

Show up.

Nothing turns up. Bored waiting.

Moved on. Never get alert again.

Worst. Defense. Ever.

I have had two so far. One I got the message for and I fast traveled and it was alomst over before I got there. I have gun turrets and laser turrets setup all over the place in all my settelments. The second one I was actully walking from rocket gas settelment to my main at Sancutary and I started hearing gun fire. At that point I knew an attack was on and I rushed in to help. Only Riaders but a ton of them hitthing all three of my gates. When it was all over I had to repair most of my turrets but there was at least 15 dead Raiders.

Sounds like a load of fun. The best raider IMO is a dead raider

The added bonus was that I could collect EVERYTHING they had on them, no problem if I was over burdened becuase I was right there at my stores and workbench to sell and salvage it all :)

Is that all? That's not the max amount you can get in a defense is it? I'm hoping for fights as epic as at the fort.

Speaking of which, does being an enemy of a faction make them more likely to target you? I want some brotherhood fights.

I fast traveled to Abernathy Farm and popped up in the middle of a firefight between the Abernathys and three raiders. Didn't even see a prompt that they were in trouble. I shot down one of the raiders, the MG turrets or the extra settler guard nailed a second one, and Codsworth, who lives at the farm now hunted down the last one in the woods.

I had a suprise deathclaw come into my heavlly defended and populated Sanctuary settlement, the only reason why its wasnt a curb stomp battle was because he came in from the vault 111 passage which had no defenses up (it does now). most settles now are fully fortified with walls and heavy lasers and missile turrets along with artillery.

Abernathy Farm. A bunch of super mutants. Me and Strong murdered them all while Strong was muttering about the Milk of human kindness

My first defend settlement was accidental. I didn't notice the notification. I fast travelled to sunshine co-op - I forget why - and found myself fight 5 or 6 radscorpions. It was ... intense.

Mine was a confusing mess. I made the mistake of fast travelling in and all I saw was a mass of leather clad raiders. What I failed to see was a caravan with guards helping defend. It wasn't until the whole settlement turned on me that I realised that the caravan was there and that some of the leather clad guys where actually guards and not raiders.

Thats one reason why I use VATS to pinpoint who is hostile and who is friendly. Prevents a lot of "friendly fire" accidents. Sure on Sniping I'll shoot from the hip or from aiming myself, but VATS is like the spotter telling you who is good and who is bad

My first settlement defense was in Sanctuary Hills while I was there. I was just mucking about in the garden picking melons when everyone started shouting and pulling out guns. I heard the auto-turrets start in with their battle-hymn and I started running over. By the time I got there it was all over. I couldn't even find the bodies, so they probably floated off down the river.

I was unimpressed. I've got better gear now, but haven't bothered upgrading my defenses yet.

I'm level 38 with 12 settlements, and the only time I was messaged to defend a settlement... well I get there and it was only 3 feral ghouls. They promptly got shredded by my defenses. So I'm REALLY hoping to see an actual attack sometime. Or a mod that will. So far I'm a bit underwhelmed at settlements. By the time I've leveled up enough to buy the prerequisite perks to build the better shops I was finding waaaaayy better loot just wandering around and looting.

Haven't been in a fight yet, though I already lost one fight. I saw a message on my Pipboy: "Failed to protect [settlement name starting with O]".

I didn't even see the message it was under attack. Probably too busy saving my own rear end.
