What weapon type does your character use?

Post » Tue Jul 06, 2010 7:39 pm

Just curious what type of weapons people generally use. I put in the last options just in case but I find it hard to believe that someone can honestly never use a weapon at all and use exclusively magic at least for the first couple of levels.

I generally use Longswords personally, if not I like Shortswords.

Long Swords are very simple, they allow me to use a shield and Umbra Sword with zero weight

Anna: fists, twice used a bow to draw out foes, one cave a silver dagger on a immune foe willow'o wisp's to be exact ( again I really don't know why these are considered tough ).
Osmundas Hlaalu: rapiers and long swords.
Ash'kailia: single edged blades, scimitar's and cutlass' mostly.
Rein'shira an old now deleted altmer: spells exclusively.

Depends,
Teskinah: Longsword.
Kojiro: Katana/Dai-Katana
Dreadaxe: Battle Axes/Warhammers/Maces/War axes
Odiku: she uses a big stick, and its classed as blunt, so I think Warhammer is fitting.
Ri'Rinji: Fists
And most of my early characters, Bows.

Would be funny to add another option of a character that has 101% Reflect Damage and 100% Reflect Spell haha.

That lovely one-handed Katana. I've used that weapon with more characters than I can count.
My other character uses a mace, cos' there's nothing better than caving a bandit's head in with a nice blunt weapon.
And all my other characters are mages.

Would that one handed Katana be Goldbrand perhaps?

It would, Forgot to mention that I use Umbra as well. Although, I prefer the Katana simply because it's faster and looks cooler.

Right now Camarilla is using a short sword and a bow cause those were the things I found first that I liked. She is testing the blunt weapons too, though, maces in particular, but I suspect she'll be choosing some sort of blade for primary weapon once she's had a bit of experience in both of them. She's only on day 10, so everything is pretty much up in the air. She's currently just a farm girl whose primary skills I play as if she just has a natural affinity to them. Some of them she hasn't even used yet, specifically magic skills. Once she figures that out she'll probably start falling into her new role as adventurer and pick up whatever she has the greatest talent for.

Hehe Goldbrand is the best. It also has a better enchantment for killing people than Umbra.

I'm just wandering the katana is a bit of a rpg'ers lusty dream, it has been for a while now for me since BG2:SOA, so..
Has anyone not used the intro blades katana while in the IC dungeon on a playthrough, when blades are their main combat style / major.

Buffy uses a bow, augmented by magical illusions and tricking the minds of her foes to make her a more lethal archer. She will not touch a melee weapon.

DEpends on the character, as usual. I voted for all categories except the axe or mace ones. I haven't had an axe-warrior yet. I'm thinking someday I will have a cleric. Clerics often use maces. But like I said right now I have never had a character that uses any sort of blunt weapons.

Ya I've never been a fan of blunt weapons, no precision or beauty when using them.

No, it's not that. It's jsut that so far i haven't had a character who typically would use a blunt weapon. Like typically, I see a big, hunky barbarian type swinging a battleaxe. Or I see a cleric cradilng a mace (for some reason, clerics often use maces or handaxes in D&D).

So far, I"ve only had one charcter who used hand-to-hand combat (Wanda Bone) but she never got very good at it before all her gamesaves were lost. :(

On my current character I use bow and arrows exclusively. Sneak up behind my prey, line up a perfect head shot, and fire to get that lovely 'thunk' and watch it fly away xD

I cast the vote for "never use weapon" because one of my current characters is doing that. She's at level 4, has done the Kvatch gate, and has never yet killed anything at all (still zero on the stats.) She will soon have to cause some deaths, as she progresses in the Mages Guild, but she will use Illusion and Conjuration skills to do it, never destruction or any weapon, because of a vow she has taken. She is stealthy, and very fast, and she can generally outrun enemies to get to her objectives. She also uses terrain to her advantage; she acquired a "certain key" from a "certain keeper" by leaping repeatedly over an open gap, until he slipped in trying to reach her, and fell to his untimely death.

My other present character, for roleplay reasons, uses only the Blades katana given to her by Jauffre, along with a lot of destruction and restoration magic.

I've played one other weaponless character, a stock Mage, but he did occasionally use a bound dagger when enemies got too close to him.

Most of my characters have used a combination of bow and blade. It's pretty difficult to get through this game without both ranged and close-in fighting skills, but magic is a perfectly functional substitute for physical weapons.

She would immobilize her foe (paralize, command, demoralize etc), then summon a bound bow and resume fire. If she needed some more help, she might summon a clannfear, go invisible and find the bow that was disarmed from her. If silenced, she chugs a powerful homemade dispel potion so she can cast again. She is also pretty good with her absorb health spell if she needs it. Seriously, she has 500 hours and has never used a melee weapon, fists or a staff. She almost never uses elemenatal damage spells either. She is intentionally built as a glass cannon. :)

Basic tactics for differing situations look like this:
-Normal: Long range poisoned sneak shot.
-Dispersed crowds: Snipe the farthest first and stay in the shadows. Repeat.
-Tight crowds: Mind control spells to get the crowd to thin itself to one. Snipe the survivor.
-Underwater: Block with her bow and cast touch damage spells (she likes absorb health).
-If cornered: Block with her bow as she immobilizes her foe with a spell (command, calm, paralyze…), then open fire with her bow.
-If charged: Stop the charge with an illusion spell, then open fire with her bow.
-Panic buttons: Invisibility, slip away and reapproach for the snipe (combining a cheap summon with her invisiblity spell makes this both easier and more fun). Cobra's Dance (once a day Serpent Stone power).

What spells? I've tried using Frenzy in some situations and it usually hasn't worked very well.
