What weapons?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 12:15 am

If guns make an appearance in this game, ill make an appearance in Todd Howards office....with a gun

:bolt:

I would simply like daggers to be a little bit more usefull, and some nicer bows. Dual wielding with one main weapon and a smaller dagger/ hatchet sounds good though.

Agreed. I wouldn’t mind seeing a much greater stealth damage bonus for daggers, as well as marksmen weapons. (see my thread)

I also wouldn’t mind at all if they brought spears back, providing that they changed how they worked. Like maybe spears could be thrown once for a huge amount of damage, but couldn’t be retrieved until combat had ended.

Why is guns even in this, did the OP just put this here to see how much of a negative response the concept of guns in skyrim will get?! and magic wands are a no go as well like someone else stated above this is not harry potter, powerful wizards use their staffs or even their hands/scrolls. Dual wielding would work but only for one handed weapons of a specific type to be honest, can't have dual wielding long swords, cause to me that isnt realistic.

I love the weapons Oblivion has, no guns is a brilliant change in pace. Adding spears is the only thing I can think of but it's not a problem that keeps me awake at night.

The main reason dual-wielding doesn't work is that you sacrifice the protection of a shield and you open yourself up for a greater chance to be struck because of the positioning you would use to thrust/slash with an offhand weapon. with a single weapon and no shield you can turn to the side and present a smaller profile for the enemy to strike at, but twisting (which commits your body to directional motion that can be exploited) and whatnot to get the offhand attack in would open greater surface area for your opponent to swipe/stab. That is why it is a mostly unheard of practice. You sacrifice more survivability than you gain in damage capability.

Does that make sense?

I voted for traps and fist weapons. I feel that the Hand-to-Hand skill was lacking in Oblivion,so it needs something to enhance it's useability.
And I just think traps are a cool idea.

As for guns, the polls shows that nobody wants them, they don't fit the lore and are pretty well covered in Fallout; so why not just play that.

I'm unsure on Wands and Books, not sure a Wizard would carry a book around to aid in combat but I suppose it could work.
It's not something i'm anticipating though. :P

I voted 'none' because I'm happy with the weapons present in Morrowind and Oblivion. The only things that I wouldn't loose sleep over if presented in Skyrim would be spears and brass knuckles.

As was mentioned, hand-to-hand was lacking in Oblivion, and definitely lacking in Morrowind. I think brass knuckles could add an interesting 'punch' to hand-to-hand-- more gore, bigger gashes, heavier damage. I would also like to see more martial arts influence in the hand-to-hand-- kung fu has some good moves for disarming opponents, and jujitsu has great moves for submissives. In Oblivion, I always wanted to use hand-to-hand against bandits, as in real life I'm quite interested in martial arts. However, having my forearms slashed by a sword, and immediately thereafter striking the opponent to death was unrealistic and turned me off to that option. If martial arts were present in Skyrim, as it should, I think brass knuckles would be unnecessary.

Spears would actually be pretty cool. I can't remember if they were in Morrowind, as I haven't played it for years because my obsession for it was killed by Oblivion. I thought I remembered throwing knives/stars in Morrowind. I could once again be wrong. I think these would be cool additions to V.

Guns: F**K no. Imho, crossbows are on the same page.

If guns make an appearance in this game, ill make an appearance in Todd Howards office....with a gun

I would love to see polearms and spears personally. Not just as 2 handed weapons either. I would definitely like to be a Hoplite and use a spear and shield. Hopefully Bethesda will let me live this dream.

Traps would be good fun I think, both magical and physical.

Dual weilding as well so long as they can implement it properly.

I like the idea of wands. IMO wands would be to staffs what shortswords are to claymores.

And fist weapons are needed as hand-to-hand is too weak but to make it stronger without weapons would be unrealistic.

guns nope never wont happen. seriously

i really dont want any of these not going to lie your trying to turn TES into a Fable/D and D/ high fantasy hybrid, TES has never done any of these things because to be honest they dont fit the lore or the feel of the game

This.

I voted 'none'.

That may be an exaggeration, I think Dual Wielding and fist weapons and maybe a few other things would fit into the lore just fine, but there are about a billion other weapons I'd want to see first, because i don't really care for any of these ideas. Sorry,

No guns, no wands. I might be able to see spellbooks but only if they have a lore-based use, otherwise, no.

Dual-wielding should be okay if it's done realistically. Traps sounds like a great idea but hard to implement.

Fist weapons like punchdaggers and brass knuckles would be great too.

I like the idea of everything apart from Guns and Wands, i think dual wield should be in there, but snesible dual wield like two short swords etc.

PS, new forums look cool, good to be back...

I'd love to see the return of oriental weapons (tanto, wakizashi, katana, dai-katana and nodachi) and of pole arms (spears, halberds, glaives, etc.) i selected dual wielding, spell books, fist weapons and throwing weapons from the list :)

the word "wand" sounds funny because of the connotation.
a wand is any long instrument that is used to channel magical energies. It does not have to be a gay harry potter wand. It could be anything from a baton to a long staff.

I like most of the weapons choices you discribed, but NO guns. perhaps crossbows, but no guns, Ever.

You shouldn't be allowed to dual wield any weapon too, there should be a limited weight; also the stronger you are the heavier the weapon you can hold.
imagine the horror on your face when you see a orc holding to battle-axes! :o

Spears. I don't particularly care for wands or fist weapons or even dual wielding - not having spears is just lame.

This is where i want to see what new types you guys want back or in Skyrim.

Trap :
Stealth oriented. Used as a way to slow down, paralyze, ect.

Guns :
Marksmen will enjoy this instead of the same ol' bow and arrow.

Dual Wielding :
Used for or by anyone. I think also for a weapons skill of 100(master) you can dual wield 2-handed weapons.

Wands :
Magic oriented. Used to cast elemental spells. It will give a magic user something to cast while there magika regenerates. (the spells of the wand are far weaker than an original cast so its not over powered.

Spell books :
Magic oriented. Can be help in off hand while using a dagger, mace, etc. This can also be used to enhance spell casting speeds.

Fist Weapons :
Melee oriented. Just a new weapon to use.

Your opinions?

First off, you're an idiot for even suggesting guns. M'aiq told me so.

And second, I like your idea of the wand, however I think if you use a wand, it should not be like a magic staff with pre-determined magicka in it, but a tool used to ENHANCE your own magical abilities. Look at Harry Potter. Any old magician could perform magic, even without a wand. But in order to focus their magical powers they needed a device with which to channel it - thus was brought about THE WAND. So, I think wands should enhance one's own magical powers.

And I voted fist weapons because - while I hope bethesda improves melee - I doubt they will enough so we will need weapons if we chose the more martial combat kind of character.

Each sword would just get in the way of the other, you wouldn't be able to get good leverage, it would look stupid. Seriously, if masters of fighting could do this effectively then surely there would be records of it, but there are not. You would just be killed. (I am referring to real history here, not TES lore).

Are you kidding.... you really don't think there has ever been soldiers who dual wield effectively? Wow... what world have you lived in all of these years? Have you heard of the The Egyptians? The Romans? The Vikings? The Japanese? All of these have dual wielded weapons, and very masterfully (the japanese imo the most gracefully). Dual Wielding weapons is a concept thousands of years old, so how in the bloody hell can you say masters of fighting with blades can not do it... and that there is never any recorded history of them doing so? The japanese used to carry, not one, not always two, but occasionally THREE swords into battle. One, their primary weapon, was used as a double-handed weapon. The two smaller ones were used to dispatch enemies as kill and forget weapons, or to dual wield with.
