what where your thoughts about the fallout 4 e3 footage?

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 3:51 pm

If you are expecting to jump into your power armor, grab the wife and kids, and go visit Aunt Martha in Miami, you are going to be sorely disappointed. Watch that segment again paying close attention at the gauge in the lower right corner. Flight time seems to be tied to Action Points which drop alarmingly fast when "flying". That jet/rocket pack may be used to quickly get to the top of a three-story building or prevent you from creating a red asterisk on the ground in a long drop, but it seems to be more like an aid to jumping than an ability to fly.

I have to agree. There does seem to be wild speculation about some things, but I would hazard a guess that we were only shown a small amount of the game.

The PC is voiced.

The PC is voiced.

The PC is voiced.

Who the [censored] even asked for this? Or the idiotic dialogue options that are boring and poorly written.

We don't. In fact, we know that there WILL be FONV features in FO4 as some of the modders who made stuff for FONV got contracted by Beth to implement their stuff in the next game, i.e. FO4.

It wasn't shown. Doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

We don't, not for everything.

But we know that skills are out, this means that different skillchecks for dialog between various skills will be out (or at least trimmed down quite a bit), it also confirms that the synergy between skills and perks and all that did and could've come of it will be out, there weren't any traits in the character creation so they are out too as well as everything they brought to the table. There was no hint at any point towards a HC-mode like feature and what it brought, that's guessing.

You saw the face generator part of character creation. That's it. And where does Todd say that skills are out?

He doesn't, but there's no skill menu on the pipboy, and several of the weapon crafting mods require rank 2 SCIENCE perk.

Maybe you don't access them directly from the Pipboy menu. They could be under another tab. And just because something requires certain perks doesn't mean there's no science skill governing those perks.

Yes I saw the nosejob; I also saw the allocation of the SPECIAL points and that they did not hint towards affecting any skills, and the Pipboy tabs at the stats menu that lacked the "skills" part, also in the crafting tables where the requirements were presented as "ranks" (science rank 1, science rank 2, etc). Call it a guess if you like, but when everything points towards lack of skills, it is safe to assume they are gone. If it quacks like a duck and all that...

Did you hear Todd say they are in, btw? If you did, hey that's awesome dude. More over... I'd be happy to be wrong about this.

You mean that everything else about the character is in the pipboy, but this aspect is found on a pamphlet in his right pocket or something?

People just need to accept it and get over it, but they can't do that if you keep giving them false hope. Pretty standard Occam's Razor stuff here. If it's not in the most logical place that it should be then it's probably not in the game. People are just grasping at straws with that "barter bobblehead". Barter could be a perk in this game just like Science is confirmed to be a perk.

I don't know if I will mind their being no skills, might make for a more logical progression of actual abilities. Besides it's not like any of the combat skills have meant a damn thing since Fallout 3 anyway and were never going to again. The system was made for Fallout 1/2, probably time to move on.

I've seen someone say that we haven't seen 60 to 50% of the game. I think it's more realistic to say we haven't seen 80 to 90% of the game. The only things we have seen are three, four new features, with no mention of what was cut or left in from previous installments.

Yes. This is not the same thing as FO1 anymore. I'm not stuck in nostalgia-mode and i don't really mind that the franchise has changed. I'm sure i'll enjoy this game a lot. Beth makes games where you can lose yourself in, no these aren't pure RPG's, there more like action adventure role playing simulators. Good enough for me.

We also saw a snippet of a quest involving us gunning down raiders with the oh so promising and deep objective:

'Pick up the minigun'

We Call of Duty now? :/

EDIT: Forgot to mention once we pick up the minigun we proceed to go on a VERY FPS looking killspree in our 'supah kewl power armor'.

On the plus side maybe this is just one quest out of hundreds and is the only one like it--the laser musket was also kinda nifty.

Just because there is not a tab to put skills in does not mean that skills are not part of the game. My guess is they are like Skyrim and actually using a skill while in the game increases its effectiveness and you can add perks to enhance those skills when you level up. To me that is a totally natural and more realistic way to build your character. Use certain skills and you get better the more you use them. Do not use them and they remain unaffected. It never made any sense to me that I could get better with big guns without ever actually using a big gun.
