Then raise a glass in a toast brother, to the end of a wondrous franchise. May we take solace in the fact that New Vegas showed us how great Fallout on modern consoles could be.
I was blown away. Dude just shot a MIRV in my direction.
I just wish I could rewatch it, I know Pete Hines said it was being recorded on twitter but i have yet to find it.
Play a gay who was married against his will because of social standards
The defense part reminds me of how I used an mod to reactivate and turn destroyed robots in FO3.
Very nice to protect open settlements and frequently used fast travel spots with some sentry bots.
Now I just hope NPC can jump, if not it would be trivial to protect against raiders. Just an low fence to stop and sentry guns to kill.
Very positive.
- It's possible to get human-looking, even attractive characters with the vanilla game. That never happened before.
- Sprinting, iron-sights and melee attacks with guns are in, thus showing that Bethesda took the gameplay improvements from F:NV over F3 and even expanded on them. Bravo!
- Crafting has been buffed up to 11. I love how it's possible to build whole settlements and even defenses for them. Gives me Starcraft vibes.
- I absolutely love the layered armor system. It seems armor will only protect the body part that it covers, as opposed to give you a universal armor rating. No more boots that help mitigate head shots!
- The interactions with the dog companion are super cute and it seems we will be able to pet him. YES!
I have mixed feeling about what I saw. Some good, some not so good.
I thought the presentation was amazing. I'm totally blown away by the awesomeness that is going to be FO4. I'm gonna have to watch it like 10 more times to get all of it and I'm sure it'll be dissected by the community over the next few months. There was A LOT revealed! The weapon and armor modding looks soooooo cool!
I was a little disappointed that there wasn't anything on the skills and level system, though, which was surprising.
The good:
-Better graphics.
-Actual clothing variety from what I've seen. Outfits weren't really a strong point in FO3 or NV. I hope this means that my female character can wear pants instead of being railroaded into a skirt.
-Dialogue is more cinematic than in Skyrim.
-We can actually make settlements.
-My character is very likely going to be called by her name (but whether it's going to be Cathy or the full Catherine, we don't know).
-Better combat, it seems.
The bad:
-There goes porting over my FO3/NV character, that is without mods at least.
-If I don't want to RP my legacy character and instead RP as Kuzya (who's slow and his voice reflects that), I would have to turn off the voice somehow and just rely on subtitles and my imagination. Here's an example of his voice and you'll see what I mean - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3k2DX5wDbsQ
What I'm sceptical about:
-I'm not too sure about skills being removed, or what it would entail.
-I really hope that the story will not become an "OMFG Explosions!" mid-way like Fallout 3.
-I suspect that there may be plot holes (http://treasure.diylol.com/uploads/post/image/221406/resized_x-x-everywhere-meme-generator-plot-holes-plot-holes-everywhere-126445.jpg) like in Fallout 3. I mean how can the LW survive the radiation from Project Purity but their father can't? Just doesn't make any sense.
-If I go through an alternate start, NPCs may be likely to reference the default character's past and it would require headcanoning to get rid of those ties.
-Likely that none of the faction, reputation, traits or general RP improvements from NV would make it in Fallout 4.
It's like a new best friend. A better friend, but you have all those memories with the old friend. That same sense of progression won't be there like in Fallout 3. With the stat driven system you started off not even being able to aim straight and by the end you are really great with whatever weapon you decided to use. It's a lot of fun, but it's obvious that with this game you start off day one with unhindered aiming. Now you can rely fully on twitch reflexes. That's not what I'm used to out of a BGS game.
That being said I'm pleased with the direction that BGS is going with this game, but it's completely different from Fallout 3's skill based progression.
Hmm after sleeping a bit:
-Voiced Protagonsit.....god [censored] awful.
-Pre war protagonist....I hate it
-Married ....nope
-Probably no skills....are they serious?
-Limited dialog and dialog wheel
+Settlement building, nice it doesn't interest me but its defintly a great feature.
+Weapon mods great
+Combat also nice
+Layered armor aslo great.
Yeah I'm not happy.
Your father was purposly radiating the chamber you just got radiated while activating the system+You got help immediatly he didn't.
A lot of truth in this. There's a lot of whining about this not being Fallout anymore and blah blah blah I didn't get what I wanted and why did they add this useless feature. How about trying to appreciate something new and being happy with what you have instead of being upset about what you didn't get?
As for the setting, yeah I'd have preferred to start off as a complete unknown and not have a history with a family etc, but whatever. I'll play the character I want to anyway.
NPCs can jump in Fallout 3 and New Vegas. Just rarely. You have to give them a huge enough reason to do so.
Why should I like something I do not like?Hey let me give you cancer it's a great experince ,maybe, you just need to accept it do you?It being new doesn't mean that it is good.
I agree I would like an more open start, also you are the only one leaving the vault alive. How about partner and kid?
pretty stupid to use a lot of time creating them, then they get killed the first 15 minutes.
Eh. Game series changes a lot over time, and definably after going from one developer to another... So I'm not surprised that Fallout 4 isn't what you may want it to be, assuming you are an original fan.
Maybe Bethesda doesn't create games you like?
Of course they do. But other developers are able to build over the source material without completely neutering it and a turning german shepherd into a turnip.
That seems to be the case, yes. I hoped they'd improve the Fallout series, especially since New Vegas was seemingly heading to the right direction, and in certain respects they seem to have, but in all the wrong ways. It's kinda the situation now that the final page has been turned. It's all clear now.
It was very eerie because it was almost everything I wanted it to be. I wanted sort of a mech system, SPECIAL choices to have more of an impact, and town building/protecting. However, they caught me completely off guard with skills being taken out.
I also wanted to be able to play as an android or have an android companion that you could upgrade. I'm crossing my fingers for that one.
This is exactly how I approach it. Loved the old games, but I'm totally blown away by the prospect of FO4. Yeah, it'll feel different, like when you give up your old pair of favorite jeans for a new pair, but then eventually that new pair becomes your favorite. It's hard to immediately love something new as that's something that grows over time.
What we shouldn't forget is that Beth loves this game as much as we the fans do, probably more, as this is their baby. They wouldn't ruin it for profit, I refuse to believe that (and some will call me ignorant for this), but I just don't see that. I'm sure there will be plenty of Easter Eggs to satisfy long time fans, and FO4 will grow on us like every title in this series has. They spent years on this project, taking a lot from the old games and building on it, but obviously also listening to the fans and incorporating a lot of request. They've also hired modders to do some work for them, so I really think FO4 will bring together the best from all worlds and present us with a completely amazing game.
Have a little faith in Beth =)
Well. Go find games you like to enjoy is all I gotta say. Fallout 4 is looking to be a rather pretty amazing RPG game in my books and I can't wait to play it. If you don't like what Bethesda is doing with the series, then that's your problem. I, myself, love Bethesda's games and can understand why the Fallout series has changed.
There's a difference between ruining a game series and it respectably changing.
Also, New Vegas felt a lot like Fallout 3 to me, except for the added details in crafting and the factions. And New Vegas is by Obsidian, not Bethesda. So that might be why it is somewhat different from Fallout 3.
