Dropping a whole series because you don't like a few changes and the direction it's taking seems radical at best, but to each their own I suppose =)

I'm more than a little bothered by what I saw, or rather, what I didn't see. No footage of stealth mechanics because we needed to have more explosions. Also, if the mistake to voice the protagonist was made because they wanted to tell a better story, I find it a little odd that we didn't learn anything about the story. The lack of explanation/footage of how perks will work now that it seems skills have been altered and what those changes to skills means also has me concerned.
Still, the crafting looks solid.
Not just few changes, but a series of complete makeovers (during the 17 years I've followed - more and less actively - the series' progression), and always for the worse.
Like i said in another thread you guys are taking conclusions to fast.
We saw like 40-50% of the game and you guys are bashing it already.
Half the game seems like more than enough to start forming an opinion of a product.
As long as you're willing to admit that your positive opinion is equally half-assed.
We saw 10 minutes of gameplay .
We probably don't even know what the other new features are.
You guys didn't see some things in the e3 demo and there probably will be new things revealed the comming 3-4 months so again no panic.
You're the one who threw out the percentages.
Thank you Bethesda!
I have been playing video games since the Atari 2600 platform in the early 80's. I have waited a VERY long time for a game that has RPG themed elements and a DYNAMIC crafting aspect for actual building. I am honestly not sure if everything i saw in the video has ever been done in any 1st/3rd person view RPG game before. When you had the raiders attack i was reminded of the first Borderlands where there is a narrow alley next to Firestone that spawns 3 bandits like clockwork and you ALWAYS have to deal with them. They actually go as far as coming into the town to attack you. That was one of the first times i thought, "Hey that would be really cool if i could actually build on this town and fortify it and encourage larger attacks from bandit groups.
I think this is a fantastic direction for any game. Anything that allows more dynamic aspects and fewer static ones is a good thing. =)
Yes and ?
With the percentages i meant that we don't know 50-60% of what's in the game.
Some people (hardcoe fans) started to panic and bashing the game because they didn't see a couple of things (that probably will be revealed the next months)
The genreal direction seems pretty clear.
I was amazed at first, but then I relialized that Weapon condition and hunger/thirst/sleep deprivation mechanics were missing. I'm not sure I'd like the game very much without those features. I don't want ot play a game that feels just like "yet another fps".
I don't know why people are complaining about being married right off the bat. That's like saying about Fallout 3:
"Hey, why are they forcing me to be in a Vault?! I wanted to be born in The Citadel!"
"What? I wasn't born in a Vault?! This svcks, I wanted to be born in a Vault!"
"Why do I have a Dad that I have to go search for?!
"Why am I being FORCED to leave the Vault? I want to stay!"
Seriously, stop over-thinking things. If you're so tied up on character choices and roleplay, then you can simply say that your character falsely got married to commit fraud or something, and that your baby is your adopted one, or that you were always a closet homosixual. It's not necessarily set in stone as of yet.
These are just theories and speculations we don't know anything for sure.
Edit: unless beth officialy admits it.
You get that some people are worried about what they already saw do you?Not the opposite.
Being from pre war, being married, having a child and having a ,generic, voice is not the same as having a father.
This is the first real information, not the last. There were a few things I wanted to see that weren't covered but I like what I did see.
So Fallout in Bethesda's hands, looks like it's going the way of an open-world FPS with light RPG elements in it. Fallout as it was, really is no more, and I don't see how people can't see that. If this has been Bethesda's intentions all along, I don't know why they just didn't create an original post-apocalyptic IP in the first place, and just leave Fallout alone.
But with that, there were some things in the F4 showcase, I did enjoy. How the PC got into a suit of PA, was a very nice touch (and not to mention in first person view, the PA HUD system, was interesting). Layered armor was a nice thing to see, and weapon modification, as well as some weapons aren't just pre-war pieces, but cobbled together pieces of junk made into a gun. Although I didn't really have an opinion on a voiced PC, it really wasn't as terrible as my reservations about it, might have been. I only hope there's multiple voices to choose from, not just one or two.
Though with all that, it looks like if I want a modern made Fallout RPG, it's going to be Wasteland 2 I look to for that clear RPG feel.
I was blown away. I had expected them to go all out for FO4, but I never expected what we did see.
I never expected we would be able to create our own living and breathing settlements. That was something I'd always tried to do through mods in FO3 and the like.
Now to see it be an actual feature of the game, put in by the devs, is pretty damn great.
I hope we know more about the story soon. I know we didn't all see exactly what we wanted, but there's surely bound to be more that they've yet to reveal. I can't see them straying far from prior FO games.
What we've seen so far though, I think it's enough to get me to pre-order this early.
But you're saying we do know what's in about half the game. You can form an opinion based on that much, just like you can tell halfway through a book, tv show, play, movie, or song that it's working or not working for you.
You don't have to wait until the end credits of "The Room" to know that Tommy Wiseau is a horrible filmmaker.
And remember, this was an extended advertisemant for the game. If people are worried about things that might not be in the game/have been radically altered, maybe Bethesda should have presented it better.
I'd also like to say that I don't know why people haven't learned yet. They speculate and guess about whether or not something's going to be in the game, or that because something wasn't shown it's not in the game, or say the game is completely ruined because of a voiced PC. Why are you guys going all-out and bashing the game without even first playing it, or at least knowing all of the details?
You can't really give your opinion on something if you don't know anything about it. Did they say you will HAVE to play with a voiced PC, with no option to turn it off? No.
Did they say you WON'T be getting skills in any way, shape or form? No.
Did they say WHY you're married and why you're straight? (for those who are upset about being married) No.
Just wait until we get some new details and wait until we know what the story is going to be about. Heck, the PC may even hint during the game that they didn't even like being married to him/her, they were forced to do it, and they prefer males/females.
What I'm trying to say is that people shouldn't be so quick to judge. If you're wrong, it just makes you look like a fool because you were so quick to put all your eggs in one basket without giving a second to think before you say. Chances are though, the things I listed above could be set in stone, but the fact is - we don't KNOW that yet. There is still a chance we may not be. And even if it set in stone, I really don't mind the game giving me a small back story about my past, as long as I'm free to do whatever I want during the game and roleplay any way I want.
Yes, but why ?
Because you can fly in a vertibird ?
Or because you have (badass) power armor with which you can fly ?
The comments about "Bethesda is a devil" because they didn't reveal everything at E3 are taken to early.
Unless beth OFFICIALY announces that there will be no skills or repair there is no problem (for me).
Yes but talking about that there will be no skills or other things is wrong because we don't know anything about it yet.
I think that Bethesda wanted to show that the series has evolved by showing new things instead of old things.
Non of what you umentioned is what makes an RPG an RPG....you get that in most action games and if "OHH JET PAK CAN FLY " is all you think about in a RPG....
On the other hand they have a with a very fixed backstory....and some people don't like that. They have a voiced MC and some people don't like that. You have a possible removal of skills(Science being perk and rank based in the crafting menu)and guess what some people ....DO NOT LIKE THAT.
