What will make or break Fallout 4?

Post » Wed Jul 30, 2014 2:22 am

Disclaimer:

This isn't suggestions or speculation based and isn't a place to suggest ideas but rather to discuss what your vision of a good or bad Fallout game is.

Let's keep this thread civil and show that we can't debate in a rational, constructive manner with the utmost respect for one and other.

As the topic title suggests, what could make Fallout 4 a fantastic game or a disappointment?

Make:

Thought provoking, complex, original and coherent writing.I'm not waiting with baited breath but this would really impress me.

In a new location for the series.

Primarily new factions and not resting on pre-established ones.

A continued trajectory of rebuilding and society starting to move past the devastation of the great war.

Ditching the rule of cool and making everything and anything believable and coherent first cool second, so that means not fixing some giant and supremely complex robot with wonderglue and any riff raff lying around the citadel.Or the BOS/Enclave/Harold or F.E.V magically appearing in D.C

Improving upon C&C by adding in consequences for dialogue choices like pillars of eternity or a complex karma system.

Break:

Multiplayer of any sort (don't see it happening thankfully)

Rule of cool being ubiquitous.

Skyrim's leveling system

The bos or Enclave playing a large part in the narrative again.

The game returning the D.C or the storyline of D.C (unless it was masterfully done, MASTERFULLY!).

No level cap like skyrim and watering down of special or skills in general.

Turning the world into a mindless sandbox with player created bases and vehicles with the purpose of mindless frolicking and armageddon.

Races or any kind and especially any cures for ghoulism.

Voice character.

This is off the top of my head I'll edit in some suggestions and tweak my list a little in due time.

It is the same kind of stuff that everyone is saying on the suggestion thread.

No one want Fo4 to be a reskinned Skyrim.

Plenty do. :sadvaultboy:

Anyways, I'm not going to write a mile long checklist that nobody will likely read anyhow. I'll try to squeeze the essence of what I think in a couple of sentences later, when I have better time.

I think this will highlight what people really do and don't want considering i'm asking people to cite things that could make Fallout 4 great in their opinion or bad in their opinion.

In the suggestions thread it's a cluster of ideas but this thread can cut straight to what we feel is pivotal to the series and what A good Fallout 4 represents to us individually.

The thread isn't about every petty thing you like or dislike but what features and inclusions could have a monumental impact that constitutes Fallout 4 being a fantastic or awful game, having more hair options doesn't really fit into either category...for example.

Still sounds like the Suggestion Thread to me. Saying "Only the Good idea" not that you actually said that but it seems to me that is what you are saying.. doesn't change it.

What will make the next Bethesda masterpiece a suitable masterpiece for next gen is basically to use the new hardware to amp up the things they've done so well to crazy new levels. Oblivion, Fallout 3, NV, and Skyrim were all built to run on hardware that compared to the hardware of today is a underclocked wet napkin, and with 200 devs slogging away at it we can get some crazy stuff going on. With the next gen hardware we can build and simulate massive streches of wasteland filled to the brim with detail, with truly open ciites with hundreds of citizens, working through a complex post-nuclear economy.

What will make Fallout 4 is its devotion to build a expansive, living, and breathing world with many of its own stories to tell. What will break it is trying to tell a single story and building a miniscule game world around that.

I'm also saying conversely what could ruin Fallout 4 and even potentially the series.

Err, I did say what would break it. I did mistype "What will break it" though...

:P.

Its good to see more threads than the usual catch-all Fallout 4 speculation thread though. When I stray from DC and go on a TES bender I often enjoy posting in the various "future of TES" threads in their counterpart to this subforum.
