what will mammoths be like?

Post » Mon Dec 20, 2010 5:58 am

im sure you have all seen the concept art for the bear eating the mammoth, but what do you think they will be like in game?

Will they be like what actuall mommoths looked like? or would you like to see some fantasy mammoth thrown in aswell?

Also will they be agressive to the player? or indiffrent untill attacked?

I would like to see them get aggressive when diffending young or a heard of them walk round the place. I think that they should also be one of the toughest creatures to kill after dragons.
what do you all think?

I think it would be completley awesome if they had packs of sabre cats or wolves that actually hunt a mammoth!

Like big elephants, but hairy.

On a serious note, they may just use the Fallout 3 model with a couple of tweaks.

In the concept art it looks like the mammoth has four teeth, doesn't it?

So they'll probably a bit fantasy like, which I like.

Big and shaggy and powerful. With tusks. I wouldn't object to some (or hell, a lot of) fantasy elements either. We might see them wandering along in http://i801.photobucket.com/albums/yy297/b_harrison/misc/LuisRoyo-PeopleoftheSea.jpg (Royo), and even if they're not initially hostile, fighting one would probably be http://frankfrazetta.org/images/frank_frazetta_mastadon.jpg (Frazetta).

Either way, I'm sure they'll be very familiar, especially to those of us who're fans of prehistoric creatures.

Fallout 3 model? Of a MAMMOTH? What?
Also, how could they do that? It's a new engine. (I don't really know how this things work, but I don't think it'd be interchangeable across engines.)

I'm hoping they're not aggressive 100% of the time the way wolves are in Oblivion. Real-life wolves (as well as elephants) are actually quite shy of humans. I would expect the mammoths in TES:V would only get agro if you attack them or their young.

Yes, but as a Bosmer, I can just use my beast tongue power to subdue them. And if all else fails, I am the Duchess of Dementia, you know... ;)

And yet you have a predilection for massive, tusked beasts to be cute and cuddly?
The mind boggles.

I hope they''ll be like the Netch in Morrowind - awesome when you see one, but so long as you don't pick a fight they'll leave you alone

Of course, there'll probably the odd quest that involves killing one for the tusks, or an insane one that needs putting out of its misery. But apart from that I am hoping that they will be benign.

One of the magazine articles said that there would be a quest in which you need to rescue a mammoth from a pack of wolves.
