What will Skyrim smell like?

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 4:12 pm

OH MY GOD I TOTALLY KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN!

hahaha when the first assassin's creed came out, i got that for christmas and an axe deodorant in my stocking, and i always associate that smell with assassin's creed. same with an axe bodywash for falcon 4.0 allied force and some weird air freshener with starwars battlefront 2!

there is no way of telling for skyrim, but the day i play it i am going to surround myself with amazing smelling things. so a good smell goes with a good game.

edit: also the album, "the wall" by pink floyd will always remind me of oblivion.

Yea I think alot of people missed the point. I had a simalar phenomona happen to me except it was no video game.

It was my senior year in highschool and my car broke down and being a lowly highschool kid I had no money to fix it, I was resorted to wheelin it on the twinky. I would get so bored on the 90 min bus ride (i lived in hicksville) that I would bring books to read. Well thats when I found drizzt dourden and the lone drow trillogy, its also when I found the band trapt and their self titled cd I would listen and read everyday, and still to this point whenever I hear that music I always think of drizzts plight against the united orc army.

Balsam Fir scent reminds me of an audio recording of The Hobbit

Mint Kisses (the pastel ones) remind me of the isometric 3rd person action/rpg Nox (which I recommend)

My pipe tobacco often reminds me of Morrowind

I have no clue about Skyrim. Maybe I'll get something vanilla scented

Heres a good idea:

Take some Vicks Vapor Drops (dont know if you guys have that in America) but what it is, is a mint that clears the nose and throat when you have a cold.
Now this is good for many reasons:

1. Everytime you have a cold (which is usually when the weather IS cold) it will remind you of Skyrim which is also a cold place.
2. It clears the THROAT... Thu'um/Dragon shouts anyone???
3. When you have this mint, you breathe in and its a cold feeling as though you were in the snow, breathing.
4. The taste is sweet like the fragrance of that potion that increases your barbaric personality (cant remember name)
5. It sedates if not temporarily cures your cold and sore throat from all that dragon shouting

also, before every gaming session put your head in the freezer for a minute, so that next time for whatever reason why you would have your head in the freezer? it will remind you of Skyrim
or
Eat icecream really fast so that you get a cold headache while playing. Next time if you havn't learnt to not eat icecream so fast you will feel pain and remember pleasure, all in one!

I have had smells associated with past events in my life, but I don't think I've ever had them for a video game. I can understand completely what your talking about though. For video games I have specific feelings that are associated with them. It's hard to explain, so I'm not even going to try.

Head in the freezer totally reminds me of summer time.

Morrowind for me is stolly and orange juice lol.

If I could choose any smell for Skyrim it would be fresh cut grass mixed with mashed strawberries on whitebread.
A smell of my youthfull summers Im fond of.
I know its a summer smell, but its just one I heavily associate with happiness.

You don't want to use something you already have an association for, then either it won't stick or it will override the old association

No, it would blend the two sensations so that a happy smell is associated with an awesome game.
Well.
For me.

Well, when you hear the Morrowind theme you instantly think of Morrowind right? You think about how awesome it is and it makes you feel good... right? Well. When I smell Axe chocolate It has the same effect except with Assassins Creed II.

I get you, but you're talking as if this is the Da Vinci Code or something with all your rants about how THIS IS SO IMPORTANT.

Anyway: I imagine Skyrim will smell like fresh, frosty grass in the morning, as, like the Fallout and TES games that have preceded Skyrim, I will be waking up at 5 or 6 in the morning on most school days in order to play it. After a week or so I imagine I'll stop this, but I think I'll wake up early to play it in the first few days of when I get it because I won't be able to get enough of it. :D
On a side note, I remember this one song reminded me of looting caves and finding awesome stuff in Oblivion, because my sister was constantly listening to the song when I was playing the game.

No, I mean if you already associate the smell/taste with summer and summer memories then it will likely either not retain that or not take Skyrim as the new association

My Skyrim will smell of shame, regret, body odor, and Cheetos.

The association of sensory memory to experiences is a well known effect. It's a survival thing. Only you're associating a deodorant with a video game. That doesn't really help guarantee biological success. Actually it probably just hurts your chances really badly.

If I'm fighting a dragon and he feels like relieving himself, I would not mind. It would actually be pretty cool trying to run around a crap-laden battlefield.

By the way.. I am wondering.. am I the only one who likes that "New game smell" when you open up a brand new game? Part of the experience for me. Open that game and take a whiff. Before you judge remember.. they make "New car" air fresheners for cars and after saying this I wonder how many people will sniff their game when they receive it.

I have recently been going out to the shooting range a lot, so I'm pretty sure I will associate the smell of gunpowder with Skyrim.

If I were to try and make a smell to link to skyrim it would be a cheap pine car air freshener and a plate of frosted gingerbread cookies.

Instead it will be some hotpockets cheap diet soda and the pungent smell of a bloodhound demanding to be fed NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!;/

I guess I'll try to make Skyrim smell and taste like beer. :D I don't think any smells or tastes remind me of any games, only some sights and sounds.

About smells, at least some movies' boxes include some artificial smells. What if Skyrim's Collector's Edition's box would include somekind of smell? What would it be?

No idea tbh. I guess it won't smell like anything, I'll be so fixed on skyrim that I won't eat/drink anything that could give away a smell while I play it. I've never got a smell and a game to combine so that I remember a game when I smell something. How do you do that? Just force yourself to smell on a chocolate bar and whenever you smell chocolate you'll think of skyrim? That's probably not such a solid plan lol.
