What will Skyrim's weakness be?

Post » Sat Apr 24, 2010 2:39 am

Hello all!

Morrowind and Oblivion both had their respective strengths and weaknesses. By the looks of it Skyrim is doing it's best to eliminate these past mistakes and combine the good points of past games. Many of Oblivions worst points have already been addressed, thankfully. We've got so many common sense improvements that it makes this a hard question to answer. Improvements like gameplay, voice acting, animation and graphics are just awesome. It truly looks to be a fantastic game from all the information we have.

But with a game this big it's inevitable that some detail will be overlooked, or some game design choice won't be perfect. Which isn't a bad thing, nothing is perfect. Though TES games are about as close as you can get. :hubbahubba:

So what do you think Skyrim's weakness will be?

Personally I'm betting on story. It's also what we know the least about, but I'm left a little scared after Oblivion's hokey bad guys and writing. Still, I hope I'm proved wrong.

Your opinion? : )

No idea. I haven't played the game yet.

People thought the whole voice acting deal would be great and the level scaling would work out just fine before OB came out...Yeah..

So I'm not going to say any until I know for sure.

Hahah @ ladders.

Expectations are a real fun killer, that's for sure. I'm trying to keep mine low. That way you'll be surprised when something is done well. : )

It's going to look outdated almost as soon as it's released (or shortly thereafter)

I think this is inevitable with any game that is released. It's like PC hardware. It becomes obsolete because the field is progressing so fast.

I don't think I'll mind though. The graphics look great in my opinion, but more importantly the art direction looks much improved. A good art direction can help your game out a lot when it comes to aging.

Only for that subset of jaded people with insanely high standards. You know, the ones who saw that amazing trailer, and immediately rushed to the forums to say how terrible/ugly/awful it was.

The difference being that it is being released at the end of a generation combined with keeping the PC version looking the same. So when compared to games that give the PC version it's dues and the moment the new consoles come out, it's going to look very outdated.

I see the mountains as being a weakness. Hopefully they aren't to harsh to climb up or too many to climb up :\

My money's on some combination of relentless and uncontrollable levelling and putting all of their eggs in the perks basket.

Character animations. That's Bethesda's Achilles heel.

The most unpopular things will probably be the attribute system, character attributes and main storyline.
