The only reason I thought it could be real was because Pinkerton thinks its indistinguishable and plastic surgery tools used for humans are needed to alter Harkness. It would seem too complicated to make simulated blood that carries simulated nutrients to simulated tissue (made of simulated cells?). The complexity on the molecular scale would seem to difficult to reproduce. Might as well use the real thing. But then again the Vending Machines in Dead Money were molecular assemblers that could reproduce the complex organic molecules in pharmaceutical products so perhaps I'm underestimating the level of technological advancement in the FO universe.
At any rate, I'm not sure androids will be the focus of the main quest. We'll probably have to interact with them in some form along the way, but I don't know that it will be the main focus.
For all purposes the Terminator made only of metal is an Robot. An android is very often regarded as synthetic organism.
