What Will Be The Purpose Of To Your Settlment?

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 12:10 am

My first settlement, likely in Sanctuary Hills, will become the capital of my Empire. Protected by a gratuitous amount of Robots and energy turrets, and power-armoured guards, it will be my impregnable fortress of D00M. It will be the throne from which my iron grasp will seize all within its reach.

How can you make caps with that?

I think thats just his 'capital' , he would have smaller settlements whos job it is to produce drug addicts who need an expensive fix or a slave yard or ammo producer.

I'll have to see what's possible. Chances are I'll be boring and have a home base with an advanced home and all the commodities of a medium town, that will be the best defended place as well. Then on the other sites I'll build fairly generic trader outposts as well defended as I can. Try and create little safe-houses throughout the wastes that generate caps.

I like the idea of developing settlements, but I doubt I'll enjoy it so much that I'll put a huge well developed settlement in every spot I can. One main one, and then smaller settlements elsewhere will be enough to keep me happy amongst everything else I think.

But wouldn't you make more by imstead guarding/fortifying your means of Production?

It seems a waste to have a unshakeable hold on a region without a mundane cover?

Without an obvious reason for such protection (IE a Mall / Habitation block) It looks like a D&D loot dungeon or a MMO raid a challenge for raiders... unless you are hoping to farm "Strange Meat"...

I think I'll end up with a small village that hopefully attracts some traders with some decent walls and good people to keep the raiders away. I'm hoping to get into the prospecting game so Id need the traders attention to make a living in the wastes

my capital will contain my laboratories, military facilities, and treasure vaults. All the best gear and supplies that my empire produces come to the capital to be catalogued and then distributed across my holdings as needed. It'll be my own personal palace, and the place from whence i dispatch my armies

Just saying dude, without a cover (caravan company compound/Habitation blocks / Market) the extra security just makes your palace into a honey pot attracting every raider, their dog, and robot to attack. They will besiege you, and technology has a habit of failing you at the worst moment.

I for example, would create my Private Fort, wall that [censored] off, then surround the outside with habitation blocks for rent, wall around them, then wall further around for a market. Tenant's Human flesh / non exential facilities are easy to replace. Better some of them die, they form a militia, help you defend the place, while still PAYING YOU for the Priveledge of living in the Habitation Blocks.

I voted the first one, because I just can't decide... The nerdpart of my brain is still having some sort of gasm, over this being put in the game.

I loved the mods for fallout 3 and new vegas, which allowed for this and the only blemish was their unfinished and unpolished states.

The whole building/settlement/barricade thing seems so naturally and to logically follow a post apocalyptic scenario, but gamecompanies have been so slow to follow up on it. State of decay has a little, but not enough. Ignored it completely in l4d2 (barricade mod tho) and dying light.

Finally someone is adding it and the way I like it seems too... :)

@78stonewobble I know State Of Decay needs some kind of building system, not just the facility stuff. But to be able to build you're own base, survivors come visit, and traders. State Of Decay could've been more if they stopped being lazy and listen to us.

I shall build an Empire (yes capital E) and look down on my subjects from my tall tower.

And they shall call me VivaEl'fascistBastardPresidentaiforlife! (let's see Mr Handy say that :bonk: )

That is all. :fallout:

I'd like it to be the capital of my empire, but I doubt the game will let it go much further than being a big house with people living in it.

Yeah agree, though to be fair, as I understand it. SoD is more of a tech demo?, turned somewhat quick and dirty into a game and the full "vision" of the developers will be coming in future game(s?).

same here.

In Assassins Creed IV you have the options to send ships in trade travels. This is done in a minigame.

I hope the brahnims caravans is not like that. Ai want to scout they across the wastes, just like in FO2.

A shining bastion where the people of the wasteland could truly prosper. A union of the people of the wasteland, where they can thrive and rebuild. A state.

Fortress of Doom it is.

A place I can return to after a hard day(s) of killing anything that crosses my path and relax watching Raiders fall at the base of my turrets.

I'll have a gun/drugs/gambling, anything to earn me caps. Also any debtors or beggars will be put in the slave pen.

For some reason this made me think of Cheech Marin's speech when Clooney et al pull up to the bar in From Dusk Til Dawn.

Considering I'll get to have multiple and be able to link trade caravans between them (as seen in the E3 footage), I'll start with a humble town, and build that social empire up. Mostly as a place for people to live and dwell. Economy, trade, and caps, baby.
