What Will Be The Purpose Of To Your Settlment?

This might be a stupid question, but what will be the purpose of your settlement?

You read my mind. A malevolent and dreaded fortress of doom and death.

By the sounds of it you'll be able to build a few settlements and start trade routes so I'll be able to set up a small trade empire to fund my exploration expeditions.

A city built with the prospects of reigniting Pre-War commodities of learning, standards of living like access to affordable healthcare, food and water and a proper place to sleep without fear of raiders coming in your front door at night.

I got it from that Thread I made about settlements, and you said something about A fortress of doom, so I put it on the answer option of the poll. Cause I know you would obviously pick it.

I want to see just what I am working with, before getting too ahead of myself but if possible, I would like to build some cities based on the maps in Brandon Sanderson's works and/or the Colony fortifications in Justin Cronin's "The Passage"- Well, most likely scaled down versions of the former.

The mechanics of settlers, caravans, raiders and defenses against them will be secondary to designing the city, for me. At least until I figure out what I can and cannot do.
Then, I'll add in some people, perhaps see if I can find mods to spawn creatures of my choosing, and see how it all plays out.

If your poll let me vote multiple times that would be very nice because I would vote for.

A Small Village Where People Come And Go

and

A Gun/Drug Market

All while also having Brahmin caravans move from one settlement to another settlement.

Earning me lots and lots of caps.

My settlement will be armed and polite. Guns are very good business in the wasteland!

Agree, obvious point would be to attract traders to sell loot and purchase ammo and other stuff you need also making it an cool place.

Then look at other options later.

Also note that you might attract raiders as well, raiders never miss out on loot.

Mine is to become the Capital of the Free Settlements of America (FSA)

Pre-War America's greatest weakness was it's top-down Statism. By allowing/encouraging the Post-war settlements to govern themselves, you allow voluntary association and the free market to commence unimpeded.

Everyone who needs 'protection' is already armed, or hires armed men, or has armed robots, therefiore state thugs with guns ("Law-enforcement"} is redundant.

As a settlement owner, I invest in mechanized security and infrastructure, and I get to rent the nfrastructure out for profit. If they don't pay; they are evicted by my cold steel fission-powered automata!
