Kinda like asking for a six scene in a PG-13 animated movie...What good will it do?
How about asking for a six scene in an NC-17 rated movie - which is the equivalent rating to Skyrim's (probable) 'M' rating? I mean, it would make more sense to say "Kinda like asking for a six scene in an advlt-rated war movie... what good will it do?" And the answer is, "It depends on the movie." Depending on what sort of game Skyrim is, it could either act as a storytelling device to give the hero some human emotional depth and some motivation for his/her actions; or it could be cheap and embarrassing titillation for the more... juvenile members of the audience .
For some reason, the phrase "Don't count on it" comes to mind.
Well that almost goes without saying
. Bethesda have never included family, and damn near nothing by way of friendship or romance in previous ES games, I doubt that's changing any time soon.
I do vaguely recall that NPCs opinions (friendly, un-friendly, indifferent) of the PC will have more influence on their behaviour, and will be used by the semi-dynamic quest system, but I doubt it'll go beyond that. A shame, in my opinion, as I think that at least an action-adventure style romance could be fun and would make the game world feel a bit less empty and indifferent.
But I agree, family (in the sense of having and raising kids) wouldn't work.
