My first character I'm gonna go right to the main quest but thats all for that one. Then on all my subsequent (spelling?) characters I'll do guilds and side quests first.

i think going out and getting a feel for the new game and its mechanics would be first on my agenda, then i would tackle the main quest

I chose the "Explore" option because I plan on maxing out "Sneak" before I really accomplish anything significant. I like the sneaky, ninja-assassin type of characters, and being able to shank anything for a one hit kill highly appeals to me. So, I will explore as I tear up the Sneak skill.

;-D

Explore until I start getting owned by enemies way too powerful for me. Then I'll start the MQ, and continue to the end of it.

my list of importance in ES games are: explore, guilds (fighters and thieves appeal to me the most but in Morrowind the imperial guild was neat too), and THEN the main quest :D

i'll beat up an innocent woman, take off her clothes and admire from all angles, then load my last save and start exploring.

Explore of course!

I don't want to get the main quest going too fast.

Here's another vote for "explore." I'll explore a city first and talk to everyone. Visit a bookshop, if said city has one, and buy any new books that I can afford, or keep in mind certain titles to buy when I can afford them. I'll get whatever quests I can, then go out and explore and maybe complete a side quest. I'll join whatever guilds I run into, unless joining one means I can't join another. From there, there's no predicting what I'll do. It all depends on what side quests seem interesting, which factions seem interesting, and how interesting the main quest is at the start.

i'll beat up an innocent woman, take off her clothes and admire from all angles, then load my last save and start exploring.

This "forum pervert" gimmick is not working for you.

Lol... "Hmmm I′ll vote for side quests, it′s usually what I do first in TES games" *checks how many others voted for it* "Side Quests - 1"...

Am I the only one who starts out by gearing up a little doing side quests and getting to know the first town you get into and such ? I remember going to Chorrol and just staying there for some time doing the side quests checking up on the smithy and such and then going for the mages guild.

Maybe you should put an "other" option because what Im going to do is see how these new skills/activities play out. I want to see how alchemy, enchanting and smithing are different from OB and MO.

Wow, good question. I suppose exploring and side quests, for me, go hand in hand, but getting a feel for the land is more important than the side quests at the beginning IMO. I usually just let these things happen as I go, I don't seek out guilds and side quests as much as I 'come across them' while exploring and interacting with NPCs. I want it to feel as natural as possible for my character because I'm a real roleplayer when it comes to Bethesda RPGs, and RPGs in general.

Technically main quest. Gotta get outta that prison. After that, sidequests. Gotta work your way through that first town and leave a mark on your skills before you start aimlessly wandering into the wilderness.

Before going into the the main quest head first (Hopefully it's a more gradual experience with some stops along the way, Oblivions main quest was very urgent the whole way through) I always explore and get to know the world. Try and and do some small quest to get some money and then buy some equipment, and then go on from there.

In an Open-world game like this, it's hard not to explore imo. Unless, of course, you're so used to linear game-play. I got my grandfather to play Oblivion and then Fallout 3, but he didn't really get it. After leaving the prisons sewers or the vault he was like...what now...somebody take my hand!

I'll head straight for the wilderness, kill a few wolves and elk. Then i'll see a giant potting along, i'll run on over and whack him a few times and do my best to lead him near a village or city so that the townsfolk and guards can help kill him!!! Then i'll loot the poor svcker.
