what will you pick as your stats to start with

I'm pretty sure my character will have every reason to be alcoholic after waking up and feeling like she lost her husband and kid the day before, and comes out to her entire world literally destroyed and things trying to eat her face.

Sneaking around out of paranoia, chugging liquor, and .... hmm. Probably not shooting straight. Wait.....

Alcohol in moderate amounts steadys your aim.

i noticed they changed what they do and there are only 21 points to put in to them . notice endurance covers action points and sprinting so we know we can run in fallout 4. luck effects critical hits recharge now and the amount of good stuff you find in the game it will be hard to know what to choose first time round

Gonna use the console to cheat yourself some points? While you got 40 points to play with in New Vegas, the character creation in the E3 video only allowed the allocation of 28 points. I personally interpreted this to mean that we would be able to raise SPECIAL stats as we level, given the low starting values.

Going for a Mad Max type with a sawed off shotgun and the dog. With the whole family/in the old world I was in the army dynamic the protagonist has going it just kind of works you feel? Someone who comes out 200 years later, who has lost everything, who just kind of snapped a little. Anyways what we have 21 points to work with now? Dang that's limiting. Ok here we go-

Tenatively:

S - 5 (Army background, rough individual in general)

P - 2 (Underground for a length of time)
E - 6 (He survived the apocalypse afterall, and Max is always running/surviving)
C - 1 (Loner, only thing in the world he trusts after the death of his family is Dogmeat)
I - 3 (No justification for this, he should be smarter just not enough points)
A - 2 (Pre-war injuries?)
L - 2 (His family is dead and his whole life is gone. Max as a character also generaly ends up worse off at the end of the movies except in Fury Road)

Only 28 points to distribute? Are we sure??

Isn't it too little?

Well my sniper characters usually have high Perception and Agility. Intelligence and Charisma are other stats that are mid to high.

I'm probaly going for a balanced setup, but focusing more on Agility and Charisma like i always do. So it would be :

S=3

P=4

E=4

C=5

I=3

A=5

L=3

Though i does depend on the final game and wheter i want to go a specific way (Sniper, Energy Weapons, Sneak, etc) depending on what ifo is released and peeks my curiosity.

21 points seems low for starting out unless there are more ways to raise them later on perhaps. Average SPECIAL now being 4 is an interesting change, maybe they needed more "room" in the stat system to allow for player improvements and so lowered your starting pool of points. In any case, until we know more details on what SPECIAL does exactly, how it interacts with perks (and skills?) and if/when you can raise your initial stats, it's a bit early right now for me to plan out a SPECIAL build.

Or maybe they are *gasp* forcing us to specialize so being a jack-of-all-trades is impossible.

My ultimate hope is that you can never get more 47 total SPECIAL points. So if you level up as much as possible, find every stat boosting collectible, etc. you still only end up with stats you could have started with in New Vegas.

Come to think of it I'll probably put 1 in charisma. Finding your family dead and the world you knew burned, I don't think you'll be a trusting, open individual

I think Charisma doesn't necessarily equal a positive outlook on life or even how you view other people. It's just a combination of appearance and charm, which could or couldn't be influenced by your worldview.

Anyway, I hope Charisma is useful this time. Can't really say anything unless we got more information on requirements for perks and importance of Speech (hopefully as important as Lockpick/Science were in Fallout 3, with unique solutions to quests maybe) and money (hopefully a resource to play with as opposed to just plentiful flavor material).

I know I'm going to try to eventually end up at

5Str

5Per

5End

7Cha

7Int

7Agi

6Luck

If it's possible to do though, might be higher due to perks. I will try not to get a MOAT, I hate those with a passion. :brokencomputer:

True but some people would be under severe depression in that type of situation and would let their looks go to hell and not be that charming

True. It's great how the introduction of Fallout 4 already allows for reasonable character concepts (by letting yourself be inspired by the game) without being forced into them.

Strength and perceptionn will be high(ish) while perception and agiliy will be on 4 and 3. In FO3 and NV I turned luck down to 1 but it sounds like it will actually be useful in this game.

Will weapon str requirement be back?

Also since everything has changed with special count to 28 is 4 the new average?

What is the maximum?

I will leave my perception at average, because many hats and glasses raise it anyway.

I'm not entirely sure since the game isn't out yet but if it's similar to the other Fallout titles then this...

S - 6

P - 1

E - 4

C - 4

I - 4

A - 5

L - 5

charisma will be used alot for settlement related features (being a good leader and all requires charisma) and obviously follower strength/related perks as well probably
