What will you do with your control scheme?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 1:00 am

very depending on the actual controls...
if the game is (for me good enough) playable with the 360 controler and the game actually changes the inteface (so i have instead of "press enter to start" "press A to start").
If it does, I'll go with the controller, if not, keyboard and mouse...
but can't really tell how to set up now, need to get my hands on the game first ;)

That's fair. So on the Xbox 360...

Movement (mainly for console people):
Aim: Right joystick
Shoot: Right Trigger.
ADS/Zoom: Left Trigger
Throw Frag: Right Bumper.
Jump: A.
Crouch: B.
Melee: Right joystick button.
SMART: Left Joystick button.
Reload: X
Switch Weapons: Y
Lean: Left bumper
Ability 1: Directional pad left
Ability 2: Directional pad up
Ability 3: Directional pad right
Menu: Start button.

Really not unique, but it makes the most sense. At least, for me it does.

same as mine i just think lb for smart will be annoyinh as left joystick with kill 2 birds with one stone as with moving and smart

the problem with that is that SMART is not a toggle, you have to hold it down for it to work. It'd be awkward to try and do that while holding the stick forward, at least in my opinion

I'll go with a Halo layout since I'm more used to those controls, I'll just wait and see if I like Brink's layout.

agreed, I'd prefer having that extra finger free as opposed to being tied down to one button constantly

It's mapped Melee and Frag to the same button so you can stab them and stick a grenade in the open wound. That way he can do a slow motion walk away without looking back. Because cool guys don't look at explosions.

As for the PS3 Controller:

L1: ADS
L2: Smart
R1: Shoot
R2: Grenades

Smart should be away from a thumb stick, in my opinion, just because of how annoying it is to hold that down. Not to mention if you need to move with the left stick normally, in my experience, you may let up on the thumb stick and break SMART which can lead to bullet ridden corpses.

"Lean" is not bound to a button, but rather a combination of buttons. On console, leaning in and out of cover is done by holding ironsights + left, right, or up on the Dpad to peek around, so whatever your ironsight (aim) button is, is potentially the button used for leaning. I don't know if PC gets to bind it to a separate button or not. Also, for those that don't know, sprint and SMART are the same button. Tap it once to engage sprint, hold it down to activate SMART.

I'm lazy and usually stick with default layout lol.

I never changed a layout once on any game, partly cause i just don't care. There are games where certain controls annoy me, but i tend to only play one game for a while so i just get used to it after a day or two.

Got to say, I'm a little worried about the people saying they're going to use L3 for SMART.

It's not a toggle - press for sprint, hold for SMART. Holding the stick down while running is really awkward. For serious play, I'm going to try with L1/R1 as ADS/Fire and L2/R2 as SMART/Grenade, then swap them around and see which way is more comfortable for me. I expect L1/R1 as aim/shoot will probably be preferable though.

The only reason I'm using L3 for Sprint/SMART is cause I have a button on the bottom of the controller I can set to be the L3 =D

I always thought it was 3 and then I didn't know what happened with things like "buff your own speed, weapon, supply." I just rolled it in as one of the 3 abilities, but now that you mention it again I've actually having doubts and it could be a separate "ability" of sorts.

Yeah, on the 360, you pushed in LS for the self stuff, I remember now. I'll go back in and add that.

With your control scheme having zoom on the "B" button, I was wondering if you claw or not. I don't know what you'd do in games that don't have toggle zoom (don't know if Brink has that option or not either).

well i usually use zoom on the right stick click or left trigger, but in brink im planning on running and gunning (in other words not using the ads at all or very little if theres toggle). Ill only use my custom control scheme when i play a smg/knife wielding light ops so there would be no need of ads.
