What will you do with your control scheme?

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 8:34 pm

We've all come from a large background of games and gaming systems, and I honestly don't think I've seen a topic for this yet. For those of you who will be dissatisfied with the control scheme Splash Damage comes out with, what would your optimal control scheme be?

Throw Frag:
Jump:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I hope I didn't miss any, lol. I don't have the confirmed list of things you can do in this game, and this is mostly speculation from what I've seen in videos so far. If I did miss something, could someone please update the format in their own post so it's convenient to others?
Anyways, I guess I'll be going first.
Button Layout: PC
Movement (mainly for console people): WASD
Aim: Mouse M\movement
Shoot: Left mouse button
ADS/Zoom: Right mouse button
Throw Frag: Scroll wheel
Jump: E or Forward mouse button
Crouch: C or Back mouse button
Melee: Spacebar
SMART: Shift
Reload: R
Switch Weapons: 4 or Q (haven't decided)
Lean: Z/X
Ability 1: 1
Ability 2: 2
Ability 3: 3
Self-Cast (speed, supply, weapon): F
Menu: Esc
Objective Wheel: Tab
I use a Razer Deathadder as my mouse, so I can take advantage of a 5-button control scheme. Hopefully we'll be able to map 2 buttons for PC, but we'll see in 2 weeks, I guess.
I'll probably stay true to the CoD layout with a minor alteration if any.
PC or console?
SMART replacing sp. grenade, right?
Did you play default or tactical in CoD?
Really, I'm looking for specifics. I think we all know generally how we want our layouts, but I want to see any cool details people are considering based on their gameplay style.
B = buff self
Y = switch weapons
I'll just use the default setting on PS3 and change the X and Y axis if it's inverted, if it's weird for me I'll just adapt like from switching from CoD to Bad Company 2.
Button Layout: 360
Movement (mainly for console people): left stick
Aim: right stick
Shoot: right trigger
ADS/Zoom: B
Throw Frag: right bumper
Jump: left bumper
Crouch: left trigger
Melee: right click (toggle on)
SMART: left click
Reload: X
Switch Weapons: Y
Lean: ? not sure if this is in or not
Ability 1: left d-pad
Ability 2: down d-pad
Ability 3: right d-pad
Menu: start
Score board: back
Leaves A for whatever is left.
this is my custom control scheme but ill more than likely use a pre-set. this custom control scheme is so i can use my left hand solely on using smart system, also this set up is not for using ADS alot.
Oh [censored] son we gotta get Obliviondoll in here. He posted an idea for a control scheme for his drunk friends that is only describable as utterly devious.
Ok maybe not that bad but it's pretty funny..I think I'll send him a link of this thread..
This. So far this is what I'm thinking of:
Movement: W,A,S,D
Aim: Mouse Aim
Fire: Left mouse button
ADS: Right mouse button
Frag: G (not sure how this will work, because theres several types of nades but... If its Molotov then yeah G)
Jump: Space
Crouch: Ctrl or Z
Melee: V (edit: or F, depends)
SMART: Shift or Alt depending on how I feel about Sprint.
Sprint(?): See above. (Although Alt is awkward. Might go with Alt for Sprint lock and Shift for SMART.
Objective Wheel: E or TAB
Reload: R
Switch Weapons: Q
Switch Weapon Up: Scroll Wheel Up
Switch Weapon Down: Scroll Wheel Down
Lean (L/R): Z/X or /C
Ability 1: 1
Ability 2: 2
Ability 3: 3 (etc...)
Game Menu: Esc
Edit: I completely forgot about F. I'm so used to games with flashlights.
No matter what config you go with on consoles, you want all your movement on the sticks or bumpers/triggers. If any of your movement is on the y,x,a, or b buttons, it will be hard to control your slides and parkour jumps. Everything else is just preference.
So i put my smart where COD's sprint is, my jump where bumper jumper halo's is, melee where BJ halo is, and crouch where CoD tactical is.
Having all your movement just split seconds away is in my opinion necessary for this game.
PS3 for me
Aim: L1
Shoot: R1
ADS/Zoom: L1
Throw Frag: L2
Jump: X
Crouch: L3 Click
Melee: R3 Click
SMART: R2
Reload: Square
Switch Weapons: Triangle
Lean: D-Pad Down
Ability 1: D-Pad Left
Ability 2: D-Pad Right
Ability 3: D-Pad Up
Menu: Start Button
If you're a hardcoe gamer like me? This.
I haven't played on console in years but if I were to get a 360, this would be my main focus.
As for PC, there is a lot more freedom in mapping controls.
I agree with you there but I got a more opportune setup. Granted I have no idea what my particular configuration will be. I'll have to play a bit before I decide that. I do, however, have the Black Ops precision aim controller with those nifty buttons on the bottom ;D
Edit: Just thought of it. Jump - A, slide - B, x - Reload, Y - swap weapons, LT aim, RT shoot, RB melee, LB grenades, D-pad - abilities, and for Smart/Sprint I can set it to LSB and set the left side button on the bottom of my controller to LSB. :toughninja:
That's fair. So on the Xbox 360...
Movement (mainly for console people):
Aim: Right joystick
Shoot: Right Trigger.
ADS/Zoom: Left Trigger
Throw Frag: Right Bumper.
Jump: A.
Crouch: B.
Melee: Right joystick button.
SMART: Left Joystick button.
Reload: X
Switch Weapons: Y
Lean: Left bumper
Ability 1: Directional pad left
Ability 2: Directional pad up
Ability 3: Directional pad right
Menu: Start button.
Really not unique, but it makes the most sense. At least, for me it does.
Copy/pasting from the other thread I posted this in... It got locked, so I won't bother linking.
R1 - ability 1
R2 - jump
R3 - Grenade
L1 - duck
L2 - ability 2
L3 ADS (hold, not toggle. Obviously)
D-Pad:
Up - Fire weapon
Down - Smart/Sprint
Left - Ability 3
Right - Objective wheel.
Oh, and it'll be left stick aim, right stick move. So you have to press and hold the left stick down, while moving it, to line up a shot with the ironsights/scope, then press up on d-pad to fire. And you can't shoot and use SMART at the same time, because they're mapped to opposite D-Pad buttons, and you can't press both at once.
I've had a better idea since though...
Movement (mainly for console people): face buttons - square for forwards, circle to go back, triangle strafe left, X to strafe right
Aim: Left stick
Shoot: D-pad up
ADS/Zoom: HOLD L3
Throw Frag: Right stick left
Jump: Right stick down
Crouch: L1
Melee: L2
SMART: D-pad down
Reload: D-pad right
Switch Weapons: Right stick right
Lean: Triangle/X while ADS (reversed from movement controls if possible)
Ability 1: R2
Ability 2: Right stick up
Ability 3: D-pad left
Menu: R1
What you guys are saying is true for any game, really. It's why Reach was so awkward for me, because I couldn't effectively find a middle ground between Recon and Bumper Jumper. If I had to be on consoles, I would have trigger on RT, ADS on LT, Jump on RB, SMART on LB, Crouch on LS, and Melee on RS. That's kind of a hybrid combo between CoD and Halo that kind of moves my grenades to an awkward spot, but quite frankly, I never thought grenades were as important to throw in a split second anyways. I would be totally fine with them sitting at B or somewhere awkward like that.
EDIT: Damn it, I forgot the objective wheel, lol. Menu was supposed to be quit game, settings, etc.
Movement: WASD
Aim: Mouse
Shoot: LMB
ADS/Zoom: RMB
Throw Frag: B
Jump: Space Bar
Crouch: C
Melee: V
SMART: Shift
Reload: R
Switch Weapons: Mouse-wheel (If there are only 2 weapons than I don't need to worry about switching the the wrong one)
Lean: Z and X
Ability 2: 2
Ability 3: 3
But aren't there four abilities? :shrug:
I always thought it was 3 and then I didn't know what happened with things like "buff your own speed, weapon, supply." I just rolled it in as one of the 3 abilities, but now that you mention it again I've actually having doubts and it could be a separate "ability" of sorts.
Yeah, on the 360, you pushed in LS for the self stuff, I remember now. I'll go back in and add that.
-snip-
With your control scheme having zoom on the "B" button, I was wondering if you claw or not. I don't know what you'd do in games that don't have toggle zoom (don't know if Brink has that option or not either).
You can only have 3 active abilities at a time.
I think that's in addition to your class-specific buffs though.
Yeah class specific buffs are done by looking at a teammate and pressing X by default, or whatever you chose to set it to. I'll probably set mine for RSB with my right side bottom-button set to that..
button layout: PS3
Movement Left toggle
Aim: Right tiggle
ADS/Zoom: L1(For now)
Throw Frag: R2
Jump: X
Crouch: Circle
Melee: R3
SMART: L3
Reload: Square
Switch Weapons: L2 (Like MAG)
Lean: SIXAXIS?!?
Ability 1: Left
Ability 2: Down
Ability 3: Right
Menu: Start
Objective Wheel: Select or Up
This is still just a rough idea. To know specifically, I'd have to play some single player first
Got to say, I'm a little worried about the people saying they're going to use L3 for SMART.
It's not a toggle - press for sprint, hold for SMART. Holding the stick down while running is really awkward. For serious play, I'm going to try with L1/R1 as ADS/Fire and L2/R2 as SMART/Grenade, then swap them around and see which way is more comfortable for me. I expect L1/R1 as aim/shoot will probably be preferable though.
Really interesting set ups here. I am thinking up my own since most games don't have fully mappable controls, just one more fun thing to think about in Brink.
