What will be your approach to Skyrim?

Post » Fri Oct 14, 2011 2:39 am

It disheartens me when I hear that people race through RPGs trying to make an almighty character as fast as they can and clock the game before anyone else.

When I played Oblivion for the first time, I just wanted to savour the game and let it last as long as possible. In turn; I took a long time doing simplistic tasks, roaming around the world, exploring, making my character look the best I could; all that great stuff! And I'm very much looking forward to doing the same in Skyrim :) (especially a lengthy sesh in the character creation!). Having said this, I do eventually get to the stage where my character is powerful and I've done heaps of the quests.

I don't think people should compete against one another in RPGs because their primary purpose is for value and fun. If you want to compete, play COD or something.

Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone agrees with me and if not, why? What's your approach going to be coming into Skyrim?

I agree with you simply because it is my nature to take things slowly, savor them, and enjoy them regardless of anyone else. I don't care about "competing" with anyone (always disliked the sense of supersaturation provided by all these multiplayer games, primarily shooters, on the market this console generation), just enjoying the game at my own slow, anolytical pace.

I agree, I think it's how games like Skyrim are supposed to be played. But if you enjoy beating it in 5 hours, well, who am I to judge?

Everything always takes me forever, too. Character creation process is fun, but also grueling. Very nitpicky when it comes to that [censored].

I saw someone on this very forum suggest not running everywhere, but walking, or slowly jogging, really taking everything in. I'm going to do that. I'm just going to go as slow as [censored] possible.

I'm going to play this game at an incredibly slow pace. My goal is to not even visit every major city until after the new year rolls around. I want to visit a new city each month (in real time). I remember in Oblivion I played it for a long time but saw everything too quickly. I'm definitely taking things much slower this time around.

I will play it slow and live in the game as much as I can. Also, I know for a fact that character creation will take a long time for me for two reasons. One being it's my first time, and secondly, because the anticipation of getting into the game will excite the hell out of me to the point of relishing the moments before it happens maybe a little too long.

I like to try and experience as much as I can in one play-through (with some limitations) before moving on to another game. I did this in Mass Effect 1 and 2 where I explored as many planets as I could and completed as many side quests/loyalty missions before the final journey. Even in the Fable series, I focused on real estate, jobs, side quests, finding weapons etc. When I skip out on all this stuff, I feel as if I'm cheating myself of content, so I never let it all go to waste. Naturally, in Skyrim, I will be going nice and easy by going off the beaten path many times, just as I did in Morrowind and Oblivion.

There are some games I take pride in beating as quickly as possible but in games like oblivion and fallout it is the opposite. When I finish those games i'm like wow that lasted 100+hrs cool.

I'll do whatever it is I want. However I'm not a big roleplayer and I also am not interested in just trying to create a super character. I play to have fun, so I'll do the quests that seem interesting to me and do the main quest as I feel like it. My highest level character in Oblivion was only like 22 or something lol. And I didn't finish the main quest until way late into my playthrough because I disliked going into the gates.

I'd like to say I would use my play time with Morrowind and Oblivion as indicators of the way I'll approach Skyrim but given the multitude of changes and the way the awe full leveling system in the previous games altered my approach I figure it'll be like I do with Fallout and other similar games. Slow, concentrate on building up resources and abilities, scout a lot while putting the main quest on hold for a while. I am picturing a lot of walking/running just to look at stuff because the game looks amazing.

I realise this sounds weird but i like to rush through dungeons and caves grabbing loot and killing people but when im outside i like to take my time, pick plants, make potions and generally enjoy the view! Maybe i just dont like dungeons so i like to get them over with quickly :D

I'm definately going to slow the pace right down, taking my time. Like, spend a few days every now and then in one city or another working, earning money, smithing, etc. I want to finish every sidequest before the main quest (so I guess I won't finish the main game for quite a while then). I like the idea of following the RP rules; walking/riding everywhere, eating 3 meals a day, sleeping at night, working, etc. That will surely take up some time.

Kill them all and take their stuff!

I will be exploring first and foremost getting the feel for the world and what is going, then pick sides and join a guild or two. After getting settle enough will learn more about being a dragon born. That will be play approach learning and explore first and foremost at the start.

I'm just gonna do whatever feels right at the time. I'm certainly not going to rush things, but I also won't spend an inordinately long time walking from place to place for RP reasons (i.e. I'll use the Sprint button) and I also won't wait months before visiting each city. I'll go from place to place at my own pace, with no particular emphasis on any particular chain of quests, taking in a few dungeons and towns as I happen across them.

Yeah, that's like taking a bottle of Chateau Mouton-Rothschild Jeroboam and drinking it from a pint glass.

We've waited such a long time for Skyrim, I can't imaging why anyone would want to rush through it, still... each to their own I guess.

Im gonna do the same as in oblivion; Like you savor every second and take it slow. No fast-travel the first day of playing, just roaming and taking small quests, make money and enjoy it all
