What will your first class be...

Post » Sat Jul 03, 2010 7:45 am

In Oblivion, you automatically got a couple of basic spells in your inventory, whether you had any magical skills or not: a low level fire damage spell and a weak healing spell. Your character was always part Mage from the start.

In Morrowind, you got a low-level spell with every school of cast magic that you took as a Major. Other than racial bonuses and abilities, if you didn't take any magical skills, you started with no spells.

Part mage because of a couple basic spells? That's quite an exaggeration.

Depends entirely on the setting and story.

Aside from that, I would definitely like to continue as my main character that I played through Morrowind and Oblivion with, but if it's true this game takes place 200 years after Oblivion then it won't be an option.

I thought that the Nerevarine was in Akavir during the Oblivion crisis.

Agreed, Dont forget about Halberds!!!!!!! :goodjob:

I hope they bring back all of the "misfit" weapons too, subtypes within the Short/Long Blade families that usually were neglected because they didn't have high-material versions but were still fun to collect. Tantos, clubs, wakizashi! Come on, Bethesda, it's such a cool sounding weapon! Say it with me! Wakizashi! Wakizashi!

Agreed, they are only there for the Tutorial, Since the Tut is supposed to work for all types of Characters you can expect to have magic. you can say your part mage from the start but then you could also say your part Warrior, Part Barbarian, Part Swordsman. I hate how there is a Boring tutorial at the start of Oblivion, I liek how in Morrowind the tut is like 5 seconds then your right in the action.

It all depends on the skill set that TES:V bolsters. Most likely a crusader of some type, a stealth character or a barbarian. Don't usually play any mage class unless the magic system is done really well.

I'll make a custom warrior class with a bit of destruction magic. And if telekinesis does some damage, I'll take the school that governs that as well.

I also dislike tutorials. I read game manuals, so I don't need a tutorial. Both Oblivion and Morrowind have great manuals. People who don't read them are missing out on some great stuff. I believe that the tutorial dungeon in Oblivion is supposed to be like the tutorial dungeons in Arena(very much like Arena's tutorial dungeon in its setting) and Daggerfall, though. They set the foundations for the games' stories and give the player a testing area to go through.

For Sure, Oblivion just seemed dumbed down to get to a broader audience, Most people that I know that play Morrowind are hardcoe RPG fans (Like Me).

I hated how Oblivion had a few weapons and most of them where the same thing with a little different look, same with the armours most of it looked the same, Also hated the fact that you couldn't change Pauldrens, and change gauntlets seperatly. Also the lack of things to Collect in Oblivion is astounding when you look at Morrowind, one of my favorite past times of Morrowind was killing all the people in a house so I could have it and just putting all of my awesome rare stuff on display. also most ruins where the same thing. Like I said Dumbed down, but this isn't a disscusion about which of the 2 are better so back on topic! :P

In Conclusion I really really hope TES V is not dumbed down like Oblivion, If they dumb down the skills ill be really mad, They really need to bring back the Complexity that Morrowind had.

Not sure what this is, so if someone could clarify.

(7) Short Blade, Light/Med ar, destruction, Illusion, Sneak, security, spear/long blade/axe

(10) + spear/long blade/axe, mysticism, Light/Med ar

(more) + climbing, acrobatics, crafting (traps), enchant
...
...
...
Battle Agent?

Edit: War Blade, Spell Scout? would this fit under Warlock?

Right now I just call it a Sentinel

I'll probably do a Warrior/Mage Dark Elf first, the same class I began with in both Morrowind and Oblivion.

I think my first character will be a speed oriented blade master with a few illusion spells. Even if I don't want that, it's always my first type.

Maybe they'll have something new and I can try that!

If the unarmed system is good, then a bare-fisted(clawed?) khajiit mage, focusing on the hopefully made useful telekinesis also doing some destruction and illusion. If the unarmed is bad again, a staff or shortblade for me.

I'll probably start with a Breton Spellsword. It's not my ideal character, but it tends to be a pretty strong combination and a s such it's suitable for exploring the game for the first time.
