What will be your play-style?

Post » Sun Nov 07, 2010 12:32 pm

I have character templates that I always play in every TES game.

The big long-haired nord dude with the claymore. Something out of braveheart

The breton mage woman

and then I generally either do a male dunmer assassin or female bosmer thief, or both if I have time.

I've done hybrid crap, one particularly interesting combo is an Orc with the atronach birthsign. Gives him a big magic pool and a high magicka resistance, but you get the orc benefits of high endurance and good blunt skill. I generally make him dark red too, because red orcs are the epitome of badass, none of that silly bright green skin for me. I generally pick a way I want to play, and build a character to suit that.

In Oblivion I played an Altmer. In Morrowind I am playing a Bosmer. Both with similar playstyles ... Sneak + Bow first, everything else second. Magic to support combat (really never have done much killing by using magic), and only do melee combat when necessary. Might have to try dual-wielding -- just because I can.

Argornians aren't too bad at bum-rushing, I typically go Khajitt bow-assassin...

Breton pure magic
Nord pure fighter
Khajiit pure stealth

Compile data then created:
Dunmer Morag Tong Informant (infiltrate the DB)
Imperial Dragon Hunter (he will be my personal canon of what occured in Skyrim)

since bows are suppose to be more useful outside stealth, I think I′ll go bow with dual wield axes or 2 hand axe for melee.

Dunmer, light armor, shortsword (2 if we can dual wield), and a [censored]-load of spells.

A: each hand can be equiped each on there own, so yes dual wield is in

B: note that spells are now "equipped" like a weapon, so expect to do a lot of changing around if you wanna dual wield and cast spells

Altmer.

Weaken, summon and invisibility. Repeat.

Gee,by that formula you can let your brother play the game. It'll be about the same amount of fun for you. But who am I to judge...

Combat isn't what everyone plays the game for, I honestly had more fun cheesing Morrowind and Oblivion's combat than I did trying to take it seriously(pretty difficult to do anyway). Skyrim combat does sound much better so far though, other than the lack of blocking with 1h weapons which I'm still hoping they change their mind about. Also summons + invis tactic may not be as simple(I assume invis will have counters if it's even kept as a spell) in Skyrim.

I usually go with something from a mod, just not into the dunmers because of how perfect well rounded they are. Just early on, they seem too good. I usually go for a primary mage, with stealth elements, so I can avoid pointless fighting. (I use alternative leveling that makes killing less effective than quests). Usually, I put anyone I see under (drain fatigue + damage fatigue) and move on, or stab them while they are down.

EDIT:

I am in the same boat, sometimes i prefer to play a less combat oriented character, just going into caves to get ingredients or robbing the inhabitants of any treasure they have. The combat in oblivion got kinda repetitive, so it seemed pointless to fight everything.

Ofcourse,it is a role-playing game after all. But that amount of repetition seems dull. Not that combat is super fun after doing it x amount of times...I dunno..to each his own I guess..

Well, I can hope that the game forces me to vary, so "weaken, summon, invisibility, repeat" doesn′t work (always). And there were those times I ran out of potions... Those times were... nasty.

I may make a mage with as large of a magicka pool as possible, if the system stays the same as Oblivion that is.

For my first character, I'm going for my old reliable: Breton Mage with a focus on Alteration and Destruction (hopefully Alteration gets back levitate, jump, and slowfall). If Alteration gets telekinesis, and if telekinesis has combat applications, I might not even need Destruction.

For additional characters, I usually base them around the available guilds in the game, so I'll need to see what we're getting for guilds before planning them; although there will be at least one will be a Nord, of course.

I'll probably go with the blade wielding Nord warrior, going into battle with either two swords, or a sword and shield.

I always stick to axes when playing a Nord. Battle axe to be more precise. My fave combo is fur boots, fur greaves and a huntsman vest with a battle axe on the back. :toughninja:

Dunmer healer type character, using mostly maces, shields and restoration, but with a little destruction and illusion added in, fire based probably. Most likely using heavy armor too, as I won't be doing too much sneaking, unless it is required in some of the quests like it was in Oblivion.
