What do I do with my Azura's Star?

Post » Sun Jun 27, 2010 11:50 pm

I see most of you hang on to it for all you're worth. But what do you do with it? I don't want to waste it by capturing a wolf's soul in it. Can it take a humanoid soul? Or what?

It′s essentially a Grand Soul Gem with unlimited uses. You can capture any animal or monster in it, use it, and fill it up again. However you cannot trap human souls in it. For that you need a Black Soul Gem

So it won't disappear when I use it to enchant a weapon? Great. Thanks for the answer.

Correct! :D and perhaps what it is most useful for is recharging. If you put a 1 or 2 second soul trap effect on your weapon then you will consistently trap the souls of every non-human you face, and you will always be able to keep your weapon at top charge without any other soul gems needed.

And if you're in an NPC dungeon and need a weapon recharge, you can conjure something (besides Dremora) and trap their souls for some quick fuel.

Azura's Star is the best Daedric Quest reward, imho.

Unless, maybe, you're playing a pure mage, who uses no weapons. In that case, one might go for either Namira's or Meridia's ring (or both.)

For my mystic archer, this is certainly the case. In fact it is the only pre-enchanted item in the game that earns a spot in her inventory. Any other enchanted items she carries or uses were crafted by her.

She finds other pre-enchanted items (regardless of their source) either don't suit her purpose (Hatred's Soul, Skeleton Key for example) or are overpowered (such as a Mundane Ring or The Gray Aegis).

As glargg says though, it all depends on the character.

Overpowered? How can anyone deny 50% magic resistence? :D

Its svcks with new players when the game directs them to hand it over(MQ), when this is, like you said, the best DQ reward in the game.

Nord,

I am new to the game and don't know how to recharge an enchanted item at all. Could you explain how to do this? I am playing the xbox version if it makes any difference.

In case Nord doesn't get back to you quickly, you can pay certain members of the Mages Guild to recharge weapons (expensive and you have to go to their facilities), or you can use a varla stone (rare, and they don't respawn). Much better is to use soul gems. Here is a good article on how to do it that I hope helps: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Soul_Trap

To elaborate on Acadian's answer... If you have a filled soul gem in your inventory, you just "equip" it, and a list of your enchanted weapons will open for you to select from. It's much the same process as using repair hammers.

Oh damn, I wish I had read this thread a few hours ago! I already gave up my Azura's star to Martin, thinking it was just another shiny trinket. Oh well, lucky I save a lot :D Where else can I get a daedric artifact to use in place of Azura's star?

Any of the other Daedric Shrine's will give you a quest that will reward you with a Daedric artifact upon completion.

I would consider doing Sheogorath's shrine for that purpose because you can do it at level 2 and I don't care to keep his reward anyway.

Yes... As long as you don't mind being mixed up in a rather nasty practical joke...

Oh, well. Cheese for everyone! Wait, Scratch that. Cheese for no one.
