What's up with everyone having followers?

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 7:47 am

This is not a whine topic. I'm just curious why everyone seems to be so obsessed about followers.
I just don't see the point of having one. It kills the immersion for me. It might be because I play as an Argonian thief but still, they alway get in the way and just repeats the same lines all the time.
The only possible reason I can see for having one is to distract the dragons to go after your follower while you pierce it with arrows.
I guess it's just different how much company people need? I'm pretty anti-social in life too, but does that really reflect onto the game?
What do you think?

I think it just feels like everyone uses them on these forums. I for one don't use followers.

I don't use followers for the most part. If a boss is giving me trouble I'll fast travel to grab a tank and try again.

I guess that might be true. I just see people talking about them everywhere so I figured almost no one played solo.

Put me down as somebody who doesn't use followers. I find them irritating more than anything else. I can see why people playing on Master would love them, though.

I don't use them, mainly because I haven't found one that doesn't cramp my style. Maybe if I find a Khajiit...

Even on masters if you can summon atronach and they are beefed up via perks you don't need followers. You just need a tank in someway, unless you've already spec your character to have max magic + physical resistances, in which case only the falmers provide any sort of threat, cause seldom do players cue in poison resistance on their default enchanted gears.

Master centurions hit pretty hard as well even with physical resistance maxed. Those need ranged assaults when soloing to be safe.

Some people do and some dont. Why do you think "everyone" uses them just because you see many making posts about them? Doesnt sound very realistic on your part. Or are you implying that you think people shouldnt use followers? Thats not realistic either.

i used them as pack mules. i got tired of going back n forth to towns selling my items. i got tired of killing a dragon and having the bones/scales waste all that weight. as a mage, i dont invest in stamina. if i can get some random chick to follow me and carry things so i can do more dungeons before i have to go back to town, im all for it.

Because RPG's like Arcanum had fantastic followers who were never a nuisance but a good help that made the over-all experience better with their own stories and Personalities, I've always wanted the same thing in TES games.

Well, you got this feeling because people make "I have a Follower!" or "What's your follower?" threads... No one makes a "I don't have followers!" thread. (Not until now)

I love Lydia, and I will probably always have her by my side. I wish they had deeper quests though like New Vegas had.

On my thief I usually have them follow me as I move around, protecting me from bears and crap. But when I get to a dungeon/ruin/fort/village I want to sneak into, I have them wait outside until Im done. Then I can use them as a handy mule to lug around all my extra junk.

I use mine and get a little attached. Faendal died recently, and I reloaded. I worry that I killed him, actually. :-( Besides carrying stuff, they get to be the archer for me, as I'm melee. I just recently noticed Faendal taking a sword to every living thing. "What the heck, Faendal. You have two bows!" ...Then I facepalmed--I'd forgotten to give him his arrows back.

Rofl..

1. The follow system is new and needs heavy polishing. Things like they way they incessantly stare at you creeps me out. Definitely needs some touch up
2. They can hold you back when they are absorbing damage and dealing damage. Taking away a lot of potential of gaining armor skills etc..
3. they don't even level with you... And despite this, the game is still way to easy depending on the type of follower you have, like a mage...

Only thing that I can think of that would make me consider is pack mulling and thats about it. I would love to have followers tho, just not very well implemented in this game.
