What is with the 2 shot?

Post » Thu Jan 21, 2016 9:37 pm

Seen the 2 shot talk here, but have not seen a 2 shot weapon. It is a mod or something? What do they do?

If that's what a 2-shot is, you can buy one in

Spoiler
Vault 81 from Alexis Combes. It's called the Overseer's guardian.

Some legendary weapons fire two projectiles. Of course, the second one only does base weapon damage, unaffected by perks, so, depending on what perks you have..... it may double damage, but, more than likely not.

Legendary guns that do double damage. This perk can show up on just about any gun even the mininuke launcher.

It's all good. I don't think telling someone where to find a particular weapon is a spoiler. More of a tip. Don't you think?

So, does that mean that the missile launcher I have that shoots 4 missiles at a time would shoot 8 if it had that characteristic? Yikes!

The 4 barrel launcher does not shoot 4 missiles. It has that many available, and you can shoot the 4 very fast, then reload the 4 barrels again.

I think this is one of the best legendary qualities you can find. If you happen to get it on a preferred weapon, you may just marry it.

Oh! I did not know that. I've never used it. Should be fun while I'm in my PA. I have over 300 missiles at this point.

Not to mention you can get it almost hassle free right from the off.. I say almost as its 2-3k around to buy but you can scraqe for that pretty easily if you have high enough charisma which will also help you get into vault 81 hassle free.

Yeah, I'm not a big guns guy but sometimes I feel I'm carrying too many missiles and should get rid of some. I have my PA with the high speed legs and a jet pack. I can bang off four missiles, smoke across the battle, bang off 4 more, hop up onto something or other and bang off another mag. Rain death from on high. Hilarious.

It works well on weapons with low damage upgrades, and especially on ones that reduce damage, but any gun that upgrades damage heavily receives far less benefit, and requires you to land far more of your shots to get the same damage, which is worst on weapons with high recoil and/or spread like the combat shotgun, and at longer ranges.

Two Shot weapons are ranged weapons with the Two Shot legendary mod; in other words, they're Legendary weapons. This mod causes the weapon to fire an extra projectile for no extra ammo cost. However, it also doubles recoil. For single shot weapons, the extra recoil isn't an issue, as the time between shots allows your accuracy to recover. For semi-auto weapons, the extra recoil is something to be aware of; you may have to pace your shots to keep your accuracy up. Automatic weapons are hit the hardest by the extra recoil; their rate of fire means that a Two Shot weapon hits it's worst accuracy in half the time. This may mean getting closer to your target than you'd otherwise need to ensure most of your shots hit.

As for damage, the extra projectile apparently only deals base weapon damage. Base damage includes mods, but not perks. At 0 ranks of the weapon's damage-increasing perk, the Two Shot modifier does do double damage. However, at 5 ranks, you're only getting an extra 50% damage.

Overall, the Two Shot weapon is a great weapon. It's just that there are some drawbacks to the weapon as well, which doesn't ever seem to be mentioned.

@ swk3000: are you sure? I thought that perks would raise the damage used for the second shot on two-shots but mods do not. It is not quite clear from this page but I interpret it accordingly: http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Legendary_weapon_effects

Example: a laser musket for me deals 60 to 64 damage. As there is no receiver mod to make the laser musket stronger (the longer barrel and the diffuser raise the damage, but only very slightly) and the base damage is 30 to 34, it can only be the Rifleman perk that raises it's damage. In my case Rifleman 5, I don't have other damage perks. Now, I own a two-shot laser musket that deals 124 damage. That I can only explain with that it adds the unmodded, but perked damage for the second shot.

The laser musket is, besides the MIRV Big Boy, perhaps the weapon that benefits the most from the two-shot legendary because there is no damage increasing mod. With six cranks it deals 744 damage, making two-shot Gauss look bad. Mine usually rests in the depot because I don't like energy weapons.

Honestly, I haven't tested the damage on the Two Shot prefix myself. That's why I added the 'apparently' at the start of the second paragraph.

Its affected by perks but not weapon modifications so if you have an weapon who do low base damage but can be boosted to very high by weapon mods its not as efficient.

2 shots does not give dubble damage.

My one shot gauss gives 403 in damage and my 2 shot gauss with the same upgrades gives 604. So close to 1,5 in damage.

As stated earlier the second shot probably get the base damage (incl upgrades), but not the extra perk damage.
