Roman armor isn't skimpy, it covers the entire torso and the head (not the face). They wore leather skirts that went down to their knees and iron leggings. They also carried a hard wood tower shield. It was very flexible and lite compared to medieval armor, but it still protected very well and covered the whole body. You can have mobility without leaving your body exposed.

Leather legs actually. Also, the armors you shown covered the torso and the shoulders also just like roman armor. The only one that didn't was the one where the dovahkiin wasn't wearing a chest and that's just because he doesn't want to and plenty of people have done that in the past because they believe it makes them more of a man if they go into combat unarmored and come out alive.

The big full plate armor you're imagining right now didn't exist untill 1600-ish. That's Shakespeare era. Big, heavy, hard to move in. Wouldn't be much fun. The advent of guns made them largely obsolete. Oblivion's armor was fairly unrealistic compared to Morrowind's.

That said, we have yet to see screenshots of every armor set yet. I do like the scrappy light armor we've seen so far, and I intend on using that if only for aesthetic purposes. Keep your hopes up, though. Chances are good you'll get your full/half plate.

Actually it existed by the late 1400s. Heavy armor was no longer used in the 1600's because of guns.
