What's up with ... no women?

Post » Tue May 03, 2011 4:57 am

I think she meant the player character and not NPC's. All the player characters have been male Nords.

Well in the in-game trailer video we've seen at least three female npcs in the tavern scene (where the assassin PC slit the throat of its hapless victim).

edit: Also I was under impression that the mage PC that initiated the fire blast spell (surrounded by the Draugrs) on that trailer was actually a female.

edit#2: And the one stalking the deer in the fall forest, too!

Feeling feministic? :P

Woman have been shown off http://i56.tinypic.com/2nbvlsm.jpg, http://i51.tinypic.com/2ljm360.jpg, http://i54.tinypic.com/bet11k.jpg, and http://i53.tinypic.com/28i1bmx.jpg. I think I heard that Pete Hines likes to brag about how hot some of them are.

In truth, Dan, I'm not much of a feminist. And I did miss the woman in the windmill picture. Thanks for pointing her out.

Egggh, and it's not a matter of "hotness", at least to me. I'd just like to see what was done with female armor and body shapes. Just like the dozens of posts asking for pictures of Argonians or this or that. Do you really think it's too much to ask?

And since women arguably thing make up half of the population of Skyrim (and a good share of the potential Skyrim purchasers) would it have killed them to show ONE female in armor?

That's a female PC in the fall forest scene in the trailer.

Hard to see the recent articles, it would have bene nice if it had been confirmed on the first piece of news. Would save having to ask the constant question.

Eh, it pretty much a given. Did you think that the devs would be that moronic to left the option to play as one out?

I'm not concerned at all about the lack of Women. The Devs probably don't want us drooling for a month.

I don't understand... they've shown two women, and until today really only like three, maybe four male characters (not counting multiple screenshots of the same character). If you look back in the trailer there are actually 2 more female characters that can be seen in the shot at the bar. One is some sort of elf, sitting in the back, and another (can only be seen for a very small fraction of a second) is a dunmer bar tender. Personally, I think you're worrying about something very irrational.

Pff! Women can't survive in the barren ice! Skyrim is the mans frontier. :P

In all seriousness I don't see it as a big deal. I enjoy games where there is a woman main character or if there are more women than men and I still see the game for what it is. I'm sure there will be plenty of women, they aren't ignoring you. But either way, gender doesn't have an effect on the game... so...

I agree 100%!

I counted about three female player characters in the trailer. The huntress stalking the deer/elk in the pretty forest, the magic-weilding lady in the draugr scene with the fire spell, and I want to say the character sneaking through the Dwemer-looking ruins had a feminine look to the body. It certainly looked a bit slender and differently shaped than a male figure.

It certainly doesn't bother me that Bethesda doesn't show us kicking behind the way they do the male, he's their poster boy, after all.

GAHAHHHHH  lol no. My points are in the edit. And killmoms said "player character" as well; not "non-player character". Should I edited that line mentioning the npcs out or what now?

Personally I could care less if my gender shows up in a trailer for a game. You'll never hear a man complaining that there isn't a male character in the trailer but that's because we are too busy rewinding the video looking at the world full of women

I'm pretty sure that assassin in the trailer was female.

And that thief in the dwemer ruins looked pretty effeminate, so it' either a woman or an elf.

Gothgirl Danielle, I'm right there with you. It would be great if we could see a lady Dovahkiin and I'm hoping it's not too far away. A lot of women play TES. I was asking to see the female armor in the Pete's Tweets # 2 thread and vsions (Bethesda) responded to my question. I made another comment and he replied. My third question and his answer are at the top of the #3 thread where I quoted the earlier conversation. I was concerned about how we would look. We don't have the art yet, but I felt better about the answer and was glad someone was responsive. I'd say to keep asking....hopefully we'll get a look before release if enough are requesting. :)

:tes:

ADDED: You do not need to apologize or feel pressured about your request to see a female Dovahkiin. It was the same for Fallout New Vegas. The men/guys were getting a look at all the goodies and the women were waiting. We asked and asked and finally, Obsidian responded in the online gameplay demo. A woman was playing and her character was female. It was our first look and we were happy. We have not yet seen a female Dovahkiin...come on Bethesda...give us a look. :)

There are also women player characters in the trailer.

Fair enough, I apologize for bringing it up. In reviewing the trailer, I'm not seen any clear pictures of women, but I'll look again.

@ vessels: In fairness, it's really hard to tell what gender the hunter (who you see from the back in the shadows) and the mage are.

Funny enough - the only new stuff provided were a bunch of pictures (orc, khajit, landscape).

E3 will have a waelth of information pics and demos that everyone is looking forward to and we will have to wait till then to see.

In all honesty? Yes, I do. Too many games these days don't have the option, instead it's male only. Brink is one example, promises character creation, but it's really only male creation, no gender choice.
So unless it's confirmed for the console version as well, then I'm unsure about making my pre-order. After Two Worlds, Risen, Arcania and a few other RPG's only having a male lead and the generio male being the only one shown for other RPG's while the female one is either never shown and mentioned, then unless they show proof by pictures of the playable female character as well as confirm for console and PC, then I'm going to hold back on my pre-order until I know for sure.

It's not a lot to ask for to be honest, a single picture or two, maybe even a glimpse in a new trailer of the playable female lead, actual confirmation with a sentence saying 'Gender choice will be for PC and console versions'.

Just using what Pete said to give you a sense of how good looking they're going to end up.

Do you really think it's too much to ask?

Not at all.

We'll see that in time. There's only been so many NPC's shown wearing armor.

But the hunter in the Fall Forest was.

I don't think that was a woman. :ermm:

You are absolutely right. Asking for a single female player picture in the number that were released is way out of line.

Sorry I bothered mentioning it . . .

~ Dani ~ :)

You've gotten plenty of pics with female npc's, you're completely over-reacting. Bethesda isn't sixist and they aren't ignoring you. Get over yourself.
