What's up with ... no women?

They should release a screenshot of a female elf player character. We haven't got a good look of the elves yet - there's just one blurry shot of an Altmer in the trailer.

But the hunter in the Fall Forest was.

Right, I've got it up right now and it could be a man or a woman. Look at it again.

In fact, in an earlier thread, someone asked about his/her hair and the response was it was a big Nord with dirty hair.

And it's a well-know fact that only men don't wash their hair. [Edit to add: :) so no sensitive guys get their feelings hurt).

Fair enough, I apologize for bringing it up. In reviewing the trailer, I'm not seen any clear pictures of women, but I'll look again.

@ vessels: In fairness, it's really hard to tell what gender the hunter (who you see from the back in the shadows) and the mage are.

Hahah, yeah, I understand that. As I said, that's just my impression of it, nothing definite yet obviously. But the one in the fall forest looks quite feminine enough to me. You can even see a bit of her side- uhh.... bits.

I don't think that was a woman. :ermm:

At first neither did I but people said that it was so I kept rewatching the trailer and if you look closely, you will see a briast. That there be a woman  A very muscular woman at that but I'm sure it's one of the body types that you can choose from.

Ya, Didn't you hear? you can't play a female PC....

Or an Argonian, Dunmer, Khajit etc.

Gimme a break. It's one thing to ask for more female characters or whatever, but when you say stuff like "how do you expect us to continue to support you when you ignore us" simply because you aren't content with the current and ver small amounts of gameplay footage that has been shown is completely ridiculous.

I may be called a total jerk for this, but it is more realistic for a medieval fantasy setting to have women in the roles they were in back before...well 80 years ago?? I mean the total lack of gender inequality was a bit ham handed for me in Oblivion, I mean they mention a bit of racism, classism, but absolutely no mention of the oddness of half the guards being female? I'm just saying it would be more interesting if there was some acknowledgement of this in skyrim, not that it would have any effect on you choosing your gender at the beginning of the game, and there would still be women in all kinds of positions (um jobs I mean) but a few misogynistic comments here and there from NPCs well would just plain fit

You have seriously studied that video more than I have.

Even now, I can barely make them out and only because you mentioned it.

No, because TES isn't set in medieval times. In TES, women are treated as equals as they should and they can be relied on to be amazing fighters as well. Different universe, different rules than medieval times.

In all honesty? Yes, I do. Too many games these days don't have the option, instead it's male only. Brink is one example, promises character creation, but it's really only male creation, no gender choice.
So unless it's confirmed for the console version as well, then I'm unsure about making my pre-order. After Two Worlds, Risen, Arcania and a few other RPG's only having a male lead and the generio male being the only one shown for other RPG's while the female one is either never shown and mentioned, then unless they show proof by pictures of the playable female character as well as confirm for console and PC, then I'm going to hold back on my pre-order until I know for sure.

Oh really?? Darn, that totally svcks; I don't have any idea about that to be honest. Never played those games myself. That's just plain lame, tbh. Well, at least we can say thank goodness for TES!
It's not a lot to ask for to be honest, a single picture or two, maybe even a glimpse in a new trailer of the playable female lead, actual confirmation with a sentence saying 'Gender choice will be for PC and console versions'.

As I said, they confirmed it already with these recent batch of coverage we just have this day. But I agree, more clearer shots would be nice.

TES has and always will have gender choice, so you don't have to worry about that.

I agree with this. I get no hint of sixism when I play Oblivion and I'm sure it'll be that good for Skyrim. We'd just like a look at the female Dovahkiin armor. :)

Nope, I won't call you a jerk.

Okay, back OT: I'm not going to reply to angry posts. I don't think my OP was too far out of line when you consider many of us couldn't tell if the two women in the gameplay trailer were women. Also, I don't think race has anything to do with it: each race has female player character option.

I know the series has history with having gender choice, but I tend to worry a lot these days after so many games that could have had gender choice having none at all. And then there was the whole issue with Mass Effect 2, as well as New Vegas, where there was nothing saying that there was gender choice until the game was played. A single sentence, a picture, anything would have saved a lot of questions and worry from those who hope for gender choice, but we never got any of that.
I ended up having to contact Bethesda directly to find out if New Vegas had gender choice, thankfully they said it did which was good.

With Brink not having it then I won't be buying that game, I'm very disappointed at no gender choice in that. Same with Two Worlds 2, LA Noire and a few others. Other than Skyrim, if it's confirmed that the console versions also have gender choice, and Saint's Row 3 - which has gender choice - my game buying selections are slim this year. I'm tired of male leads, I prefer to have the choice for myself than be lumped with a male lead.
May seem superfical and such, but having the choice can mean a lot of difference when it comes to being immersed and I'm much more immersed in a game and able to enjoy a game so much more if I have the choice to have my character as female. With a male I just can't be immersed and it ruins any chance of enjoying the game.

That's why I'm hoping for actual confirmation and even a clear picture of the playable female choices across the races, if possible, so that I can place my doubts to the side and look forward to buying the game in November.

She mentions the barmaid in the OP.

Generally speaking Scandinavian society treated the women with high standards, but a part from the mongols and the steppe tribes of Russia, there wasn't a single culture that embraced women as warriors.

Even in modern times there are very few women serving as policemen or in the army compared to men (of course in Russia, it's a different case).

If they're going to show off a bunch of female PCs in action I surely hope one of them is a female Orc battlemage. [censored], they were easily the best for the job of kicking butts then burning them to cinders in Oblivion :disguise: .

Sorry if my post came off as angry sounding, but honestly who cares if there weren't many females in the trailer? Have you ever played Morrowind or Oblivion? Both games have plenty of females in them, and when you say things like...

It gets hard to continue to support you when you completely ignore us.

... it tends to sound a bit ungrateful, and even a little sixist.

And that thief in the dwemer ruins looked pretty effeminate, so it' either a woman or an elf.

I agree with some points here. I think its a bit naive to think they are holding out on women alone. We haven't seen the majority of the races yet. They are probably just using the generic guy they use to play the games with in testing. I don't think it's anything personal about women. Besides we've got a whole bunch of other stuff coming out this week. So women could be included there. So just hold it together. It's nothing personal.
