What would make you NOT buy Skyrim?

Post » Tue Aug 25, 2009 8:56 pm

Well the only thing i can really think of is if someone hands me a collectors edition for free, then i wouldnt buy it. But other than that, this game series is absolutely outstanding, and nothing could make me turn it down

^^ LOL

I would skip buying the PC version if the Construction Set isn't included. That almost made me skip Fallout 3 for the PC, until they released the GECK.

The only thing that would prevent me from buying skyrim would be the skills being dumbed down to the point of being extremely vauge, like
-weapon
-armor
-crafting
-magic

I will probably rent the game before I buy it. If I like it, I will probably buy the collectors edition. But if Skyrim fails to fix some of the problems from Oblivion, I probably will not buy it and will not look for ES VI. Part of me looks forward to Skyrim because it's an ES game. Another is only looking forward to if it is an improvement from the good-but-not great aspects of Oblivion.

I don't think I could play Skyrim if they forced too much story on me.
I tried playing dragons age twice but thats more like an interactive movie. You go from conversation to conversation. I didn't get very far.
Same with Mass Effect 1
If they try to make it very specific who my character is and what they have to do then that takes the joy out of it.
The story worked well in Oblivion because you didn't have to do any quest if you didn't want to.
Thats not to say that I wouldn't play the game if it had really great gameplay.
It just wouldn't take Oblivions place for me.
I tried playing Morrowind years ago.
I prefer Oblivion because everything seemed better integrated.
Morrowind had some cool stuff though that I wouldn't mind seeing brought back.

1- Intrusive DRM
2- No pc version or No mods for pc, id get the console vers maybe
3- Seeling out to casual gamers, OB took it a little too far in that direction away from MW
4- MMO
5- If i cant afford it :P though id get it eventually :)

The abysmal persuasion system and terrible voice acting of Oblivion. I had to play with the sound off in all of the cities . . .

The only way I'm not buying TES V: Skyrim was if it was going to be on the 360 and PC only. The PC won't be much (just as long as my PC can run it) of a bother but I'm not buying a new system just for one game :P.

There is absolutely nothing they can do to make me not buy Skyrim, but I will refuse to buy the PC version if they force us to download/use steam in conjunction with it(ala F:NV). I've heard enough horror stories with people with my type of connection trying to play F:NV with steam, I will not have my experience sullied by that. I'll just buy it for Xbox 360, or, If i'm lucky enough to have one by then, for the PS3. Rather play Skyrim unmodified and pristine with no hassles on a console then be annoyed and have a slower/less desirable experience on PC because of steam, even if I can't have mods.

What about you?

I will not buy Skyrim if it's like the previous Elder Scrolls games. I've been patiently waiting for them to really make something special out of this series, and I still haven't seem them do it yet. They may never make what I want to see though, but I'm looking forward to see what happens.

Wow...Umm, High expectations much? How long have you been around as far as TES goes? Arena was a good launch game for TES, Daggerfall was everything I've ever dreamed a game could be, Morrowind was like a fantasy, Oblivion was a bit less but still damned good. What more could you possibly expect out of a series? I can't think of any other series of games that I look more forward to when it comes to new installments, with the possible exception of Diablo(and even then, TES still gets the edge).

very few things would make me not buy the game, and they'd have to be big...

the one most likely reason, though?

if skyrim was unstable like fallout 3 and fallout new vegas... if you play those games just for a little while and build up a 4mb-10mb size file... the game starts to become unplayable...

complete crap, because i only had time to do a few side quests and operation anchorage before my game started freezing and crashing, while before hand, i had NO problems AT ALL with it.

so if the game was unstable like that, i wouldnt even be able to play it for long, anyway... what would be the point in buying it?

im hoping bethesda will make the game stable, though... pray to the gods that they manage it.

If the framerate is still as janky on the 360 as it was in Oblivion. I don't care if Besthesda has to downgrade the graphics for consoles, I want a smooth game.

I don't have high expectations, I just want a different approach. And I've been playing games before Bethesda existed. As for what I want, look up my last several posts, it will explain everything.

1 - If there was no mod support (Oblivion's many flaws were fixed with mods).
2 - If you couldn't create your own character (the story followed a premade character).
3 - If the game was too linear and dumbed down (no choices, no freedom and the feel of exploration, no replay value).

If they listened to some of the knuckleheads around here and took out voice acting and made it a text based game again. :P
